Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

so... this is the new proposed tray layout..... the track goes from the sidewall, to the right side of the blue tape... how far forward on the tray, unknown at this point....

full

the one thing that will have to be done is, that tray's back wall will need the left 3.5" removed.... that's where the cable carrier will lay when all the way out......

here's how tight i am..... also, in relooking at this, the ceiling track mount will be as far forward on the ceiling as i can get it... it has to be for when the tray is out....

the wire bundle will actually come out of the track right at you, than curve around and head back down the middle of the ceiling next to the bats....towards the backwall....

if I can pull this off, it's gonna be a Muttiracle.....

The wire track works both ways... Why can't you put the curved side out towards you. That way the wire would exit the track at the back on both the tray and the ceiling

Looking at your new layout, I was envisioning the track laying in the tray while closed with the curve up to the ceiling at the front. That way, as you open the tray the track uncoils "up" and never had to come in contact with the back of the tray.

not sure that will work with the door lip hanging down at the top.. I'll look at all possibilities tho...

Kai bomb for size comparison.... this thing is freakin stout.....

it does only bend one way.......

here's how 4 1/0 fit in it....... oh, and my 25' red and 25' black will be here tomorrow....

hopefully i can play with this a bit over the weekend.......

This should work.
Caged is better than zip tied

so, just a quick thought on this..... I'm damn happy with the spacing around those wires.... could be a tad tighter at a casual glance... I think it may be perfect if I decide to put some sort of chafe sleeving on them... or run, as is...

or even go back to 4 1/0's, plus triggers in smaller bundles...

to be honest, I'm not sold on the curl being toward the front... I don't want this thing being a big loop, sticking out of the box when I'm trying to work on stuff... I'm not overly concerned about cutting the back wall.. if i feel the need, I have other ways to gain that strength back... but we'll find out this weekend if ANY of them work... ;)

oh, my new 55" TV is badarse... :saweet: need a wall-mount..... 42" to The LAB™ this weekend....

here we go again...

going into a project/build with "a basic premise and 74% of the idea" of what I want...

and wingin it from there!!!!! :saweet: :saweet: :saweet: :woot: :dunno: :doah:  :haha:

hope this one works out, cuz I think it's pretty original/innovative/neAt........ :pimp:

100%. Like the enclosed look

T2, here I come... :dunno: :doah: :haha:

my premise going into mock-up here is that I can make the bundle fit well in this cable carrier in one form or another.. no doubt...

now... in my brain, it's totally a function at this point, of the track working/fitting right... I "think" the 3'er is long enough for a full drawer throw.. but it is conceivable that I may need to buy another 1 foot piece to section in....

there is another issue I'm foreseeing beyond the track as far as wire routing, power posts, solenoids and drawer interference, but I'll divulge that when it rears its head.... :doah: ;)

Have you tested the heavy wire in a curve? I wonder if you by those clips that would lock the four wire apart to eliminate the worry of chafing or some fancy ziptie work. lol
The wires look good in there.

just put the wire rolls in The Lab™ now.... i may play tonight with loading 4 thru and seeing how it bends and such......

yeah, not sure what I'll run at this point... i'm almost thinking some sort of large spark plug wire seperator type thingys.... :haha: not sure I've seen something like that...

Could do something like this?

ha, I forgot about that one..... :waytogo: conceivable, it does what we're talking about......

I'm not overly concerned about that at this point, I know it'll work..

to be honest, I think it'd be fine with the wire exactly as that sits, with no more protection.. the marine jacket is pretty tough.... it's not like this thing is gonna be opened 17 times a day...

some sort of thick, slick shrinktube type product might be nice.. something that slides and takes a bit of the volume up.. i will have to do that with the triggers.. forget how many wires, but it's like 6 or 8, 18g type stuff.. put in a single bundle... but I'm not overly concerned about actual securing them together, or, keeping them separated...

I'll see what we come up with.... :) I've got all winter for this project...

there are some incidentals that are going to come up that i alluded to... routing in the box, and EXITING the box too... the frame/fuel tank limit what can run out the back wall of the box... the bat cables will actually exit at the top of the left side wall all the way at the back/top... heading forward...

ok, no issue whatsoever with the unit bending with 4 1/0's in it.. you barely even notice it with 4 long lengths thru it..... the stout mechanical nature of the cable carrier overrides it.. working sat, hopefully sunday i can look into box/drawer mounting...

build babble...

spent about 15 minutes just now with the track in the tray... sorry, no way it'll work with the loop "out".. i'll show why tomorrow, unless it's pouring...

it needs to be to the back with the wall cut... will this track work, yes... will it be perfect, no... tomorrow i will show why chain slack brings the suck, and loop height is soooo important... ;)

ideally, i'll figure out the corrections i need tomorrow, and possibly purchase a slightly different track.. if it is available without running a batch or sumfin....

also.... beyond cutting the back wall, there are other tray modifications i want to do... i'm going to "pad" the outer wall in 1/4" in some areas to keep the track off the slide mounting hardware... I'm also going to put an "inner" tapered, guide wall for the other side of the track as it lays in the tray...

a big thing with all this was, the other day when i realized i needed to move both bats to one side of the tray for the track, it ALL became much much tighter... 2 #27's fit perfect front to back, the full length of the tray.. pretty much no room front and back... also height wise... this makes utilizing the right side interior wall for anything, pretty much useless... unless the wiring is in the 10 to 14g range/bundle....

it basically leaves me a 6" x 8" square on the back wall to mount something... and like 8" x 18" on the left side wall.. but that can't stick out more than 3", or it will get into the track path... I'm pretty sure an inverter is out of the question in here.. unless i can find a pretty thin one to mount between the bats and right side wall....

it's gonna be fuggin badarse, but precision and tight, are key... :pimp:

one main project tomorrow is to make a clampable jig for bending wires..... wood, or wood/steel... i'm gonna need it in all the other mounting areas of the compartment, solenoids, posts, etc......

I'm also working on a "flat clamping" bracket, to ensure the 4 wires stay "flat" as they enter/exit the track, secured on both sides.....

how The LAB™ sits currently..... straightening wire... :haha:
