Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

trying to avoid slipping down the vent window rabbithole... ;)

just hate the idea of not doing it all while I'm in there when the panels come in... on closer inspection today, the vents are pretty hammered.. not surprising considering the environment is used to live in... weatherstripping is crusty and cracked.. and actually the glass frames/rubber really could use replacing.. the lowers are a bit puffy with rust.. common.... the glass itself is ok... and the handles are pitted and wobbly...

only thing is, the metal trim frame is on backorder... and i can only get a GM weatherstrip for the ds... thankfully.. they only seem to have the aftermarkets for the ps.. and I'm pretty certain that's one that you really want quality.. i've read of the aftermarkets being wrinkly and whatnot....

the GM one is friggin $95  tho the descrip says reproduction...

i'd also do new handle kits... thinking of just doing the one weatherstrip, and both handles... let the glass/trim ride for now..

The ventless conversions are cool, but i vote trying out replacement parts. I know the GM ones are spendy, but if return policy is good, try the aftermarket ones. you can heat and play with them all you want, and if they suck, send them back!

oh, i'd never run a 1-piece window kit.... i actually like the vent windows and that look.. plus those 1-pieces apparently work like shit and are flimsy and $$$$$... decided to wait and completely rebuild each one down the road... too many other irons in the fire right now $$$$-wise, they'll work for now......

hoping to cut the rocker out today, weather pending..

Pisses me off that my wings don't work. Driver side of my dually the lower hinge is actually broken, so can't open it. And the passenger side feels like it'll break if I try :doah:.

I'm with ya on a c10, lowered some, a 1 piece could look good.

Yeah, these open/close reasonable... the locks turn, but are floppy and don't lock per-se... they function reasonable, I've had worse fo sure... but i do try to use them sparingly...

after even closer inspection, the ps is actually a fair bit worse than the ds, rubber-wise...... surprisingly...

ds.... isn't actually horrible horrible...

just adding up the new trim, rubber, locks, reusing my glass, new rivets, urethane (as opposed to rubber gasket).. i'd prolly be in a couple hundy to do em.... which is what I'll do at some point....

not that I'd use him, but there is/was a guy kicking around the FB groups that was resto-ing sets.. not sure if he sold, mostly you send him yours kinda thing... and I'm sure it's not cheap... but i did catch a couple pics and they did look quality...

kind of blown out from work... sitting in the AC working on tank drawings instead of :grind::hack::weld:

oh, and just to verify for your amusement my hack capabilities........

yes, that is a stereo strapped/screwed down to a speaker box.... ;)

oh, FTR... when I do, do the vents, I'm gonna powdercoat/black out the locks/handles..... I've also decided to definitely at least try/see, how the door handles/locks will look in black when my door panels come in...

I think Brothers might do those vent window seals where you send yours in to be done.

Yeah, I haven't looked at what brothers even has for parts... LMC didn't have sh*t.. I've read that brothers is even worse than usa1is with customer service...

I don't think I've personally ever ordered anything from Brothers.

I know they were like "the" source for the 1-piece window kit for a long time.. But now a bunch carry it...

grrrrrrr, lost another tail light sequencer.. that's the second one in like 4 yrs now.. I do have a spare thankfully...

Are those not for 12v? Or is the ground not close to the sequencer or lights?

yeah, it's 12.. basically it's a "potted" piece about the size of a bic lighter with the leads coming out... the grd is close, right at the back of the frame.... i'm guessing it's just a chip burning up inside kinda deal... same thing happened last time, the first one in the sequence lights, and it stops there... they aren't cheap for the 4 light ones.. think i pay like $75 for the pair... twice now... the 3 light ones are cheaper...

Got my vent rubbers from a vendor on here (1a auto) and they came out pretty decent. Was a major pain in the ass fitting them though. Lots of windex to 'lube' them for install.

So here's where I'm headed with my tank guys... gonna do a couple more views, print em all out a couple times, staple em together and put em in a folder... that way the builder can have one, the owner, me... keep everyone in the loop...... hell, I'll put my phone # on it too, so the builder can call with any questions...

i'll also do a simple bottom view to locate the drainplug.... a top top view to locate the pickup, return, sender, vent and fills... than a side/angley one of the top to show the fills in detail....

also working on baffling... I'm thinking something like this.... X pattern corner to corner.. just running to the top of each corner.. so it wouldn't actually go to the top of the tank.. thinking that might be best for ease of construction and effectiveness.. than a lower window centered on each one....

just a quick drawing of the idea for proof of concept...

thoughts?

Build a tray with those mounts instead of them welded directly to the tank. I bet they would fatigue at the end of those triangle gussets.

i don't get a "tray"? the design is to have that side mount actually be the bottom of the tank, with the wall welded on top of it... keep in mind, this is, a pretty specific envelope.. i could extend those gussets up the sidewall a bit, maybe up to 6" ... I can also add a couple.. I'm figuring 4 bolts right to the top frame rail.. i also plan to do the bottom in a good bit thicker piece than the rest of the walls...

do you mean like a frame and have the tank sit in it? like a 3" x 3" angle frame all the way around that the gussets go to, that the tank sits down in?

maybe something like this... I would stitch weld it to the tank in various spots....
