Ryoken's 91 GMC 1500

Sounds like synchros.

I put some fancy Redline stuff in the Tracker's 5 speed and transfer case a few years ago and the improvement was immediate and very noticeable. Don't know if it's good for your NV3500 though.

actually.. retract my last statement, it's pretty much fine when not running... :doah: :haha: definitely either still a slave issue, or the clutch.. gotta ask the dude if he ever did a clutch in it tomorrow...

well.. I guess the way to check this out will be to have my bud put the pedal to the floor, while a try to depress the fork even further by sticking a screwdriver or extension in the hole that aligns with the fork/slave... if it moves more, it's an issue with the slave/master.. no movement will mean a clutch...

a got the ressy for a 92 cuz the production date is 11/91... but now I looked at the vin and the fifth digit is a "c" which is what a 91 master calls for.. the 92 doesn't list a letter for the VIN..

tho both 91 and 92 pics online show up as the cr@ppy plastic ones.. i'll have to call my napa guy in the morn and see if I can verify it's the right one in there..

what a freakin cheesy setup, fuggin plastic cr@p... gotta be a better aftermarket setup out there or something...

I had a 95 model that did the same thing. It needed a whole rebuild. I took it to aamco transmission for just a bench job. I think it was 350 for bearings and sycros

actually that's incorrect.. I'd have to pull the fork towards the hole... another use for cotter pin/hose puller hooks... :haha:

thanks... the first thing I have to do is verify the slave is fully engaged.... I'm not opposed to throwing a clutch in, or even going thru the box if that's what it takes..

i'll update this when I figure more out this weekend.....

I manually pumped the slave thru the hole in the bellhousing, somewhat like I did with my CC... that gave me pedal.. doesn't seem to have any air in it.. been driving it a couple days now and it's the same.. fluid level is the same too..

throwout bearing went in this..... new clutch? $105..... time to do it? nada really.. but i'll rip into it sunday... DD'ing Mutt again... ;)

also ordered new body mounts, notate the bodylines below, cab is laying on the frame... here it was recently after the AC install.. when i buy the unit for Mutt, I'll get a black one, swap the covers.. than paint this white one Ryoken red for Mutt...

the amp draw on this thing is borderline.. it's a 12.7 RLA... so it'll be right around 15 startup... doing the wiring tomorrow... many circuits are 20 these days, and that is actually the minimum the unit calls for to run... obviously it's designed to run on 30 amp RV hookups... that wouldn't be an issue at the marina, but elsewhere, don't know.... but hopefully it fires on bs 15a lines too... as long as it isn't tripping outlets...

did final wiring today.. works fine on a standard 15 amp... seems to crank pretty good..

Tomorrow morning I start ripping the trans out... it looks heavy, lol..

thanks... it's "ok"... all my injuries are "hanging in there" these days, lol......

hopefully the body mounts aren't toooo bad.. the bolts look ruined, plus i may have to fab up some plates... think i'm also gonna order the bolts, and big cup washers from LMC... they're hammered... funny thing is, they only have upper bushings.. had to go to one of the aftermarket uro's for a set of actual bushings......

gotta show blackie some love.. best $400 vehicle i've bought in maybe, forever.....

I had one just like yours I got for $200. 4.3 auto black just like yours. Ran it for about 5 years then sold it for more than we had into it

it is invaluable to me... get's like 20 mpg.... Mutt gets 6... . runs awesome... it's like Kai's crate.... Mutt is a long way from kennel duty..

i'm stoked on the AC.... i'll have to see how performance is with it.. probably continue using the sun tent to shade the rig at the marina just to make it's job that much easier... it HAS to be better than the hokey portable air conditioner i had vented out the slider.. that thing worked like sh*t...

haha, won't bother posting in there for this, but i had to chuckle today... hit McD's drivethru for lunch today in Mutt, and the 16 yr old chickie asked me "have i seen this on tv? it looks like I should have seen it on TV" :haha:

That is awesome! :pimp:

hmmm, integrated bell/box, cute.. took about 2 hr's to rip out... gonna replace the original u-joints....

we'll see how I like this "new" development on reinstall.... flywheels great, throwout bearing fell to the ground upon removal.. ;)

using a new vendor for me for the body mounts, http://www.classicindustries.com/ hopefully, they're good... track # they just sent said package was deivered march 23...... :haha:

*****on a side note*****

one thing i've learned about this rig/yr range is, if you had to go to that "plastic replacement hydro slave" you where fugged.. it comes with papers saying it WILL, fail... the guy i bought it from replaced 2, then it went on me.... i found an oldschool metal one.. it's gold... it's literally what makes this rig viable...

hopefully i'll be bench-pressing this back in sat...... hopefully the Y-pipe doesn't get in the way....

ok, quickie update.. clutch has been done for a bit, like butter...

it's funny, this entire rig's viability is based on the fact it now has a metal hydro slave, as opposed to the junk plastic replaxcements... this rig went thru 4 of the plastic ones, than the GMC God's smiled on me and i found a dust covered box with a metal one...

anyway.... since i committed myself to the rig pretty thoroughly with the AC and now clutch.. I need to start saving the cab... doing the body mounts now, the cab was laying on the frame..... they actually rotted thru the frame brackets, so I'll be plating those next weekend and getting the mounts in...

was originally gonna just throw a quickie patch over the hole in the floor, but said screw it, just ordered a ds floor, front left cab support, 2 cab corners and a ps rocker... surgery starts next week.....

who's used the MIP floor mats from LMC? http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cd/full.aspx?Page=56 it's relatively expensive... i'm hoping the later cab style means they got a better fit going than the earlier square stuff...

i know they are stiff, yada, but can they eventually work pretty smooth? it had/has the factory version, that i love.... it has the jute on the back, which i've ditched and i'll just throw the rubber back in, but it has a large hole under the pedals that i'd like to eliminate with a fresh one...
