Ryoken's Guide to Rust Treatment and Bodywork 101

Oh I meant to tell you...Dupont guy went to computer and said "hey! I can get this in Imron....oh sh*t...wait..no I can't...they've pulled it...I can't get the old Imron anymore and the new formula doesn't have that color...

Thanks again EPA...

So being brutally honest, what am I going to lose out on by using the NASON instead of the $2500 worth of color matched Chroma?

yup, it's become difficult to get the old Imron lately... I haven't shot the new stuff yet...

my body guy is kind of funny... he kinda crabby, but I've been using him for 15+ yrs now.. I actually need to stop in soon for a gal of red/orange for the CC soon.. probably a couple weeks from now..... pretty sure I'm gonna be running Nason single stage on the CC...

Guy at the Glasurit shop said that if I colormatched Glasurit it would be a single stage enamel...not your father's enamel but some new age stuff...:dunno:

So don't laugh, but here was my logic...I was really hoping that I could get the color in Imron...because that is the "fleet" paint commercial grade...and in Amity in 1975, that Blazer would have been a "fleet" truck...commercial..municipal vehicle...so Imron would have been ok with me...

I got a ways to go yet, but the painting of the firewall is approaching fast...

don't know about that..

generally where you'll see difference in paint lines/expenses is the durability.. a bit of fading, etc earlier on than you would get with the higher end lines...

Even with the High Solids Clear...UV protection?

What if it's true that the NASON I will be buying is the same Chroma Clear of last year?

Well that is not me.
I spent 8 months doing body work on a 74 K5, until you can just spary clear coat and call it good, the painter takes it, and proceeds to put gallons and gallons of filler then sprays it with 2 stage PPG black base with clear coat, it comes out awfull, all wavy, so we had him sand it all back down to almost metal, clean it up and then respray it with single stage Polyurethane, it was the black Beauty.... Took it from the shop to my favorite mudhole, got it all tan and almost tipped it over, then took my girlfriend and a couple of her friends on a snow wheeling trip in the mountains.
I didn't even scratch the paint, but realized I shouldn't be doing this again, just pick a relatively clean truck, and make the mechanicals really reliable and go have fun.
For me cars are for use, not show.:dunno:

mixers and dozers, musta shot a thousand gallons of Cat yellow, white and red Imron...

Well...I'm not looking to show it either...I mean, being honest...I will have done a medium job, with medium results...it won't be show quality...I do think of it as my "new car" though...and I want it to look like a new car would look and I realize that in 5 years it will look like a 5 year old Blazer

But, it will be garaged and I am also a short distance from work...about 7 miles...I don't put 10 g's a year on anything

than it should hold up even better... it's not like I'm talking about fading out in 5 yrs... ya GENERALLY will see higher end products hold up a bit better..

and Ice.. some people like that sh*t that looks as good as it works... ugly work is lazy work imo... I spin wrenches and do repairs all day, I know nice work, and get it out the door work...

I had a mechanic come work for me at the one marina... gonna do heads and exhaust.. cool, all done? test run goes well, boat runs good... customer asks me to come look at the boat a few months later.. guy never put an ounce of paint on the heads and they had turned into balls of rust...

one of my most embarassing moments as a service manager... my fault for not checking... but that's exactly what I'm talking about...

Well my Burb isn't show quality but from 20 feet you could say it was done recently, I chose it because it was clean, my wheelers on the other hand will always look like crap because when I am having fun I don't want to worry about scraping the paint with a few branches on the trail, not saying I have fenders hanging on a thread or all wrinkled or multicolored.
Now my work car that I take to the commercial parking to leave for days when I go on the road, is still the way I bought it 4 years ago, faded paint, no accidents or rust, just faded paint.
All I have done since I bought it is oil change, and recently a tune up with new wires and plugs...
PLus of course brakes and tires.
My point is I left me burb there once and came back and found someone side swiped it, I was bummed but I don't care if that happens to my car, it's why I bought it, reliable ugly duckling.
If I am going to do body work, as I said I do it right or I dont at all.
It's just that I have other priorities with having a wife and kid, if it's reliable to do the job, it's good enough for me, and I will not spend more time and money to make a show queen when it's already a good princess.:thumb:
And when a vehicle I have is not good looking anymore, I have options cheaper than doing all that work, I scrap it and buy another cheap.
That is the beauty of CA:thumb:

sorry bud, I'm not gonna make that call.. you know the color better than i do... i wouldn't know unless i was trying to blend onto original paint... looks pretty good... how was that rattlecan you had made up colorwise?
