Ryoken's Guide to Rust Treatment and Bodywork 101

The middle of the door handles on my '73 are painted flat black, just like the trim.

Thanks for the photo....now to ask Ryoken...How do you prep chrome for paint???
Won't it just bubble and slide off?
:dunno::dunno:

Thats really pretty good! Basically get the backing free by ordering it from there!

I called ACC, and they allowed my to cancel the order with them even though they had already started making the carpet.
I told them I would immediately place the order through the other company, so keep on making it.

I did...saved nearly $200...thanks!

tape it off and thoroughly scuff it, you can even hit the main sections with some 280ish, but use the scuff pad to get right up to the tape edges..

untape.. damp/dry with denatured.. retape, fineline is prefered.... pisscoat, and I do mean pisscoat of green, than paint...

Will do...will show you how it turns out.

Also, I used some jewelers rouge and a "ball" on a drill to try to polish out the spiderwebs...it didn't work and actually left some "haze" or discoloration that you can only see at the right angle....
How do I get those spiderwebs out and the "stain" that the rouge left.

I can't take a photo that will show the "stain" or haze...camera wont pick it up.

wtf are spiderwebs? :dunno:

you need to polish, and/or glaze, a painted surface that's hazy from compound..

I think he is talking about the chrome being spider-webbed a little and now stained by the jewelers rouge.

yep...spiderweb scratches in the chrome...can't feel them but you can see them...

carpet will be here tomorrow...not sure when I will have time to put it in...

anybody got a favorite method for cutting holes in the carpet for seat bolts and stuff?

Anybody use glue between the carpet backing and the floor? :dunno:

It does sound good. I've used a soldering iron to cut a lot of plastic, so the carpet idea sounds interesting. Just watch your heat and don't use you favorite soldering iron. I thought it seemed hard on mine, but it still works and it's a cheap one.

this carpet has mass backing...will the iron go through that?:dunno:

hmmm....it is thick rubber and "lint" looking stuff
