Stomis' 94 Street Truck - Snail Trail

Thanks guys. We're suppose to get washed out for the next two days bad so if Im off from work the small block is getting yanked and hopefully I'll get the LS temp bolted to the trans and get it in and mocked up to tack motor mounts together and pull it back out to weld everything.

I could use to sell some of the small block stuff for the sake of generating some extra cash for LS parts...

Those valve covers look awesome, you have inspired me to dress up mine a bit more then I originally intended.

Well the small block and trans came out today. Buddy stopped by and helped me and the wife. Had it out in a couple hours and the trans off of it. Was an accomplished day for sure. 11:30 start, oil change and put the front diff back in my wifes car, change my buds fuel filter in his s10, yanked the motor/trans from the truck.

Im going to send the truck harness and the motor harness off to Voodoo to have them combined. I dont want to screw with it. Ive seen the guys work and it looks really good. Having the body harness combined is something I willing to pay the money for.

Im going to bolt the trans to the 5.3 tomorrow and get it set in place to mock up and tack my motor mounts. Then pull it and weld and paint everything. Im also planning to clean everything up under the hood, including deleting the ABS that doesnt work anyway, painting the firewall, and making everything nice nice so when the motor goes back in place its all said and done.

I know of a few bad shops for wiring harness stuff.

better check on ls1tech just to be safe .

and yes your ether good or bad at wiring . its not something to half ass.

Well its not that I couldnt do it, its just the time it would take to make it nice and combine it with the body harness. I think its just worth it to pay the guy. Theres numerous guys on here that sing VooDoo Injections praises and his price was inline with everyone elses to rework a harness and combining the factory body harness in was dirt cheap.

I cut the old clamshell mounts off the frame today and flap disc'd the engine crossmember. Gotta finish pulling the engine harness tomorrow and then hopefully mock up the motor in place tuesday.

Just started reading on what its going to take to run a 102mm ls7 maf. Looks like my tune is going to be altered as the updated maf has a different table in the computer.

wasn't saying you couldn't . or trashing voodoo .

just recall reading stuff and wasn't sure who it was . but 1-2 shops have had bad turn around times or quality in the past few months .

sounds like you got a good plan and good luck . :thumb:

No I got ya man.

As a weird aside for some reason either advance auto cant get me a proper LS7 pilot bearing because of how the number cross references or my crank has a weird large bore in it. Im going with the first option. I ordered up the old powerglide pilot bushing that some how fits in the LS cranks 60 years later and everything works nice nice. So I guess Im using a bushing, not that Im opposed.

Also I ordered 1 and they gave me a pack of 5. So if anyone is doing an LS swap with a SBC/BBC stick behind it Ive got pilot bushings for sale for cost!

Tore down the SBC tonight so I could get some pictures to make a clist ad and generate some cashola. Had a broken valve spring on #7 and a clean bottom end. Got lucky, the spring was caught on itself holding the valve up. Im still not sure why yanking the #8 plug made no affect on how the motor ran but I guess it doesnt really matter.

Some progress shot I snapped. Engine compartment is stripped and I welded the ball and socket flanges on the head and mummified them :D

Been plugging away all week at night. Today my buddy came over and helped me.

Threw the coil the coil brackets and coils on last night.

Also got my fire wall, cowl, and inside of the fenders shot in flat black.

Inner fenders and core support will be semi gloss. As will the booster, clutch master, and hood hinges. I also got a new set of cab mounts in and my tubular control arms. I figured I would do them while the motor was out just to make it easier. So I also picked up new front calipers to paint black. $30 just isnt worth cleaning up the old ones lol.

Unfortunately it looks like I'm going to be redoing my trans crossmember... I'll probably save the inner trans mount piece but the cutouts from the SBC headers dont line up with the new headers at all...

Which I happened to have found out because this happened! :D:D

All set in place. Super low and slammed back. The motor was only in to mock up the motor mounts which I got done.

I then pulled it back out. Need to notch my crossmember in some spots and box out the tall side of the motor mounts. The motor landed a mile away from where I thought it was going to. The LS motor mount bosses are a mile back compared to the SBC which explains why all the after market ones are super long sliders. For a second I thought I was going to have to pull it out, notch the drivers side crossmember and stick it back in but I made it work and will notch it around the mounts now.

Im pretty excited. The harness is going to get shipped out soon and the trans sent out for a rebuild. The wife also gave me the OK to get the truck painted rather than plastidipping it. Im still going to do trim and stripes in plastidip though.

So glad to hear about the paint!

You and everyone else I tell lol. Not sure if its gonna happen soon or what. Probably not until the winter.

I also got a call to trade a LQ4 6.0 for my diesel thats sitting around and the guy doesnt even want my $500 adapter... Looks like Im amassing parts for my to be monte ss/ malibu project already lol.

Got the motor mounts done Friday night. Not really sure how the neighbors felt about me grinding at 11:30 :haha:

Set the thing in place at 10:30 saturday after doing some sidework, bringing my buddies s10 v8 project over on the trailer, and prepping everything for the motor to go in.

Been a busy weekend. Hoping to have the tranny rebuilt by the end of the week and in. Then it will just be button up stuff.
