Stomis' 94 Street Truck - Snail Trail

Got the oil pan out and changed to the holley. Super happy with the clearance I gained. Sump is over the collectors now!

Found some seriously bad news bears in the bottom of the old pan. After chewing Pauls ear off for a while Ive drawn the conclusion something self clearanced its self inside the motor. Its got to be the doubler roller on the timing cover. The motor makes no OMG something is wrong noises. I chose to button it up with the new pan, Im going to put fresh oil in it and take it for a 1 mile lap and drop the pan and see if theres anything new in the pan.

The odd part is Ive changed the oil twice and both times its been clean as anything, which is really making me think it happened in the timing cover and fell straight to the bottom of the pan. If I find more the timing cover will be coming off and along with all the caps to verify nothing catastrophic is taking place but I couldnt imagine that w/o some sort of knock...

I also threw my alternator only bracket on, really nice piece.

friend years ago did a cam swap on a sbc but lost 1 of the 3 bolts for the cam gear . so he grabbed a reg old bolt and a lock washer . . . . .

engine ran fine but had a 1/2 speed tick to it .

pulled the timming cover and that bolt was just skimming 1 rib in the stamped steel cover .

I went to town and got him a moroso bolt / lock plate kit for it and still running now with no noise . . :D

could have skimmed that close .

I seem to recall a tv show that did the roller chain setup and had to clearance the cover . if my brain is recalling correctly .

Yep. Something similar happened to me when I was assembling it. I had a cam plate bolt threaded in the block just to keep track of it and it rubbed on the crank counter weight just enough to cause friction turning it over by hand. Took the bolt out problem solved. The 1/8th inch of the thickness of the plate made all the difference.

In building a street truck, it seems getting it to hook up would be problematic. Isn't the ass end really light? Or does it not really matter? Maybe it's not all that different from a sedan.

Nope haven't had more than 5 minutes to work on it since I changed the pan. Be in VA at my house every weekend until the 2nd week of September so I'm pretty much just waiting to get a free night afterwork.

Got started on the rack and decided to hack the frame rails off while Im at it.

Spend some time on the lathe at work making adjusters and mounts for it. Also did all my geometry for placement in solidworks so theres no bumper steer.

Adjusters are 9/16-18 on one side for the inner tie rods and 5/8 fine left hand for the heims on the other.

Ditched the bumper, time for a glass one. Im gonna weigh everything I cut out/replaced. I wouldnt doubt I got 100+ pounds off the front end.

This
that
and
the other is ALL awesome
