Well rear suspension is officially done.

I forgot how much I hate doing TIG out of position lol. ARB tabs are something I just refuse to MIG. Too much stress on too small of a tab.

Picked this thing up from the bus station. I literally forgot what this truck looked like with a bumper on it.

20170817_201816.jpg

O and for the record Im totally going to cut my brand new straight at hell bumper apart and tuck it lol. Go go gadget west system.

20170817_201828.jpg 20170817_201836.jpg

Everybody cuts a $200 bumper in 3 pieces the day after they get it right??? :P

So while I will say this bumper is nicely made quality wise it either A) wasnt made by someone who knows how to measure or B) isnt overly measured because its made to be placed over and steel bumper and fastened to it.

So after placing it where I wanted it I realized the back edge of the top doesnt even match the contour of the grill. So I taped that line and trimmed that firstly.

So then it fit the grill evenly. Then after finding center on the bumper I realized its also no symmetrical.

20170818_175518.jpg 20170818_175542.jpg

1/2in on the passenger and 7/8 on the driver.

I laid it out and trimmed it ahead of time for the tuck where it would be once I pinched it.

Then I channeled my inner billy mays while discovering what else is wrong with it.

One return is like 3/4 of an inch longer than the other.

20170818_175555.jpg

I checked and double checked. Both sides are 4in from the grille to the outside of the bumper, lol.

So Ill fix that in step two. You can only clamp and fiberglass so many pieces back together at once...

20170818_180621.jpg

20170818_180626.jpg

I think its funny I didnt take a picture of it loose in 3 pieces but the tape was cut at the appropriate width and then both cuts made evenly parralellelelelelel so they would go back together nicely.

Let me tell you about clamps. Use lots, and when you think its enough, use more.

20170818_183716.jpg

And then when you think thats enough and you're going to settle with the 32nd of an inch gap in that one spot screw paint sticks to it. Dont settle, no one likes people who settle...

20170818_184928.jpg

Then glass it back together.

20170818_192844.jpg

Walk away and embrace the fact that you still need to remove the clamps, glass the back side again, v groove the front side and glass then, then trim the stupid long return on the one side, glass that, then DA it back smooth, then polyester primer it and block it, O and then mount it. Because screw that 40lb steel bumper.

I feel itchy just reading your post...

Luckily glass doesnt really bother me. I did that whole Mclaren including grinding the inside of the quarters while I was in the wheel well.

So piecing it back together was a success. It didnt tuck as much as I envisioned in my head. Im not really sure how because I measured lol but whatever it looks good.

So I got to work on actually making it strong instead of just together. West system is crazy how strong it is. You can see in the last picture the west system actually delaminated the piece of dirty plywood I was working on.20170819_175001.jpg

20170819_175007.jpg

I filled the lower bumper bolt reliefs, V grooved the front face out and skimmed that, and put more mesh and glass on the back. Tomorrow Im going to get it mounted and then shorten the one return thats too long. Im simply going to put some universal weather strip foam under the top edge, hang it on the grille lip and put some dzus' on it off the crash bar.

I also wired up my trans brake. I had been having some odd issues with the trans the last week or so. I would have to let it warm up and run it through all the gears a couple times before it would want to move. I readjusted the linkage and all seems good. Trans brake works. I just need to get a diode to hook my two step up because the trans control box backfeed a ground through the transbrake wire in 3rd gear.

Got a lot done. I wound up not putting any dzus's in the front face of the bumper like I thought I would. 2 in the top and 3 in the bottom and the bumper is solid as anything.

Also cut the passenger side return and took the extra 1/2in out of it....

20170820_181935.jpg

Im going away tuesday night and busy finishing to build a rear tomorrow night so this is how it will sit until I get back. Once I get back I got a little bit of block work to do, polyester primer, block that, and then rattle can it flat black lol.

Wow that turned out awesome! Never expected that to look pretty oem but a ton cleaner.. an untrained eye might not see what you did there.

Lazy day, went into work for a few hours and did some stuff. Got my clutch pedal out finally. RIP. Also wired my trans brake and 2 step. 2step was a little tricky because the jakes box actually backfeeds ground in 3rd gear through the trans brake wire. So I had to wire a diode so my steering wheel button could trigger both the trans brake and 2 step and not have the 2 step always active in 3rd. That being said, sweet mercyful crap

Bumpers on. Paint came out like shit. Dont really care. My point was proven today as to why I refuse to paint this truck. I found a 12in long scrape/dent in my passenger side fender. Clear as day that someone tried to carry or wheel something past my truck and it didnt fit but they just made it fit anyway. The people I work with are real uncaring cock suckers, its pretty infuriating. Ill be glad to be out of this shop and into mine in a couple weeks...

Also finally deleted the clutch pedal.

So on another note I started to get an idea of fitting the turbo. It looks like my ram air box is just too big to hook into the turbo so Im going to delete it and basically do the turbo forward facing in that area. Ive got big plans for this thing this winter including a cage, change in dashboard and gauges, rewire, replumb, and obviously turbo. I have all the rollcage tube already and obviously am starting to accumulated turbo parts. My biggest expense will be the shearer intercooler for the hi-ram. Im hoping that selling the trick flow heads will pay for this...

Its really the only spendy thing Im getting. The turbo was a good deal at $600 from my buddy for a $1200 t4 s475. Im going to vband some stock manifolds, Ive got a lot of the tubing. Ill be running VS racing wastegates and probably blow off valve. Fuel is simple I already set this cell up for dual pumps so Im just going to throw another walbro 255 in there on a pressure referenced switch with a check valve and I should be good for a 1000hp at the flywheel which is basically my goal.

Looks slick there! So opening own shop? Sorry about fender hate a co#k sucker that is to stupid for there own good.
