Everybody cuts a $200 bumper in 3 pieces the day after they get it right??? :P
So while I will say this bumper is nicely made quality wise it either A) wasnt made by someone who knows how to measure or B) isnt overly measured because its made to be placed over and steel bumper and fastened to it.
So after placing it where I wanted it I realized the back edge of the top doesnt even match the contour of the grill. So I taped that line and trimmed that firstly.
So then it fit the grill evenly. Then after finding center on the bumper I realized its also no symmetrical.
1/2in on the passenger and 7/8 on the driver.
I laid it out and trimmed it ahead of time for the tuck where it would be once I pinched it.
Then I channeled my inner billy mays while discovering what else is wrong with it.
One return is like 3/4 of an inch longer than the other.
I checked and double checked. Both sides are 4in from the grille to the outside of the bumper, lol.
So Ill fix that in step two. You can only clamp and fiberglass so many pieces back together at once...
I think its funny I didnt take a picture of it loose in 3 pieces but the tape was cut at the appropriate width and then both cuts made evenly parralellelelelelel so they would go back together nicely.
Let me tell you about clamps. Use lots, and when you think its enough, use more.
And then when you think thats enough and you're going to settle with the 32nd of an inch gap in that one spot screw paint sticks to it. Dont settle, no one likes people who settle...
Then glass it back together.
Walk away and embrace the fact that you still need to remove the clamps, glass the back side again, v groove the front side and glass then, then trim the stupid long return on the one side, glass that, then DA it back smooth, then polyester primer it and block it, O and then mount it. Because screw that 40lb steel bumper.
