Superburb3.0

1989 v1500 suburban. Barn Find
Well its officially up and running. After working out a few bugs it finally runs and drives. We had a problem getting a huge air pocket out of the cooling system. Also noticed engine mounts settled and i lost all the clearance i had between the oil pan and ORD engine cross member. I added some 1/2" spaces and re-drilled a couple holes and now it clears just fine. I also noticed that the header now contacts the frame which is causing an annoying squeak once it warms up. But the hard part is done! I will see if i can get a good video of it this week. The cam has a nice idle and the Borla mufflers sound awesome.

Well the Engine and transmission have been blessed by the tuner and it runs better than ever. Time to start sorting out the suspension. The rear still sits about 3" lower than the front and my pinion angle is off by 15 degrees. The factory rear springs are pretty flat which i imagine isn't helping much. I'm probably going to pull them out and have them re-arched and see what that does to my pinion angle. After pricing out different shocks, i think I've narrowed it down to bilstein 5100. Once i rebuild and gear my 14 bolt i can swap that in. I have a pair of 8 lug spindles for the front that will hold me over until i find a 60. Now that it runs, I'm itching to get this thing on the road.

Burb is looking great. The red really pops out when you look at it for sure! I would assume you would do a 14 bolt rear at the same time as the D60? In the process of swapping my 91 V2500 at the moment and your build has me itching to swap my spare 1 tons and a low lift on as well... That will just have to wait until later though. Keep updating the thread! Subscribed.

Thanks! Hopefully I can keep up the momentum on this thing. I do have a 14 bolt that I'm going to put in the back. Just needs gears and a fresh rebuild before I swap it in. The red on this thing really does pop for how old it is. It's alittle rough around the edges but I really don't mind. It's nice not having to worry about what happens to the paint lol

Finally made a decision on shocks. The fronts are bilstein 5165s with reservoirs and the rear are just 5125s. I still haven't replaced the wore out rear springs so the rear is a little soft, but man does it ride nice! took it around the block to put some gas in it this afternoon. One step closer to getting it on the road!

My daily had to undergo some cosmetic surgery. So the red burb has been on the back burner for a bit. Now that I am done with that, hopefully I can get working on the axles.

This is my 99' k2500 suburban that is currently my daily driver. And that 2014 Chevy SS in the back ground is my weekend warrior, or my backup car for when I tear apart too many vehicles.

I decided I'm going to try and use the factory 5.3 air box on my swap. The $50 amazon special air filter kit works, but I would have to make some sort of shroud to shield it from heat and other debris. I was at a C10 show last weekend and I noticed quite a few swapped trucks that used the donor air box. If its done right, it doesn't look to bad in my opinion. So i figured why not give it a shot. The inlet for the air box damn near lines right up the the hole on the inner fender, but the intake tube is about 3" short.

Well I found some better quality intake parts to extend the factory air box to the fender. My new expansion tank showed up as well so i made sure that would fit between the radiator and the intake. I went to the local junkyard and picked up the factory 5.3 air box brackets. Just need to make a few modifications to the brackets and the intake will be finished.

Haven't made much progress on the burb lately. I did however find a seat that matches the interior better and is a whole lot more comfortable to sit in! other than that, I have been slowly collecting parts. Dropped the 8 lug axles off to have the gears done in them. I'm leak testing the bead locks right now and repairing any leaks in the welds before I get them painted. hopefully after the holidays i will have fresh rebuilt axles to swap into this thing.

Well Axles are back from the shop. Had them rebuilt and geared to 4:88. Also got the bead lock rings back from the painter. I mounted one after work and was shocked how easy it was to balance. Just need to reassemble the hubs and I can start the swap. Plan is to get the front all setup this weekend and start the rear if I have time. This thing is really starting to come together.

Had a productive Saturday. Managed to get the front axle under the burb. The zero rates threw a curve ball at me but i managed to figure everything out. It went pretty smooth for the most part. All that's left in the front is the driveshaft and steering. Plan is to start the rear next weekend if my leaf springs show up on time.

Well my leaf springs showed up this week but unfortunately I didn't realize the bushing kit was sold separately. So I wasn't able to start swapping the rear axle yet but, I did manage to get a few things done that ive been putting off. Finished the steering on the front axle, mounted the steering stabilizer shock, fixed my reverse lights and blinkers, replaced the driver side window and vent window seal, wired up the HD relay harnesses to the front window regulators and Installed the F Body temp sensor and got the factory temp gauge working. I also managed to find a OEM 88-91 Chevy bow tie!
