The Beige Jimmy

There are methods for testing if you have valve guide leaks or piston ring issues. Look into doing a leak down test.
Leak down won't tell if the guides are worn just if the valve seat is.

If compression is good then cylinders and valve seating are good so it has to be in the heads. Slight possibility it's intake allowing it to suck oil through the valley into the intake port.

Intake is off. I can't tell if the gasket failed, but I did note that the two manifold bolts nearest to cylinders 6 and 8 were way looser than the rest.

Now I need to clean it and decide whether to reinstall this cast iron beast or wait for @82355 to mail me an aluminum unit. He's not returning my texts anymore.

I should have an aluminum intake that I was gonna put in the C10 before I got the EFI.

Well I don't need 2 aluminum intakes. If Marty gets it in the mail soon, I will be forever grateful.

Right on, I'll keep that in mind. I usually stop at the Napa on Lombard St. up in North Portland since it's right by my work.

Let me know by 5pm Wednesday if I need to haul mine to BB.
@82355 Martin,
Will you finally succeed in getting your intake in the mail by 5pm MDT this coming Wednesday, September 7, 2022?

My L1 through 4 vertebrae thank you in advance as they are still sore from yanking the cast iron unit out yesterday and have unanimously elected not to reinstall said manifold (or one of identical design), preferring instead to convert to lighter-weight aluminum. A preliminary ergonomic risk assessment conducted on the aluminum manifold installation process has identified a 61.9% reduction in weight compared to the original cast iron unit.

Beyond the tremendous safety improvements, an upgrade to aluminum will provide aesthetic and thermodynamic benefits too numerous to list here. Aluminum intake manifolds have been the choice of hot rodders, speed freaks, and performance junkies since old man Vic Edelbrock first cast his Slingshot manifold in 1938.

Suffice to say, the aluminum intake manifold is projected to look better, run cooler, gain hp and tq across the curve, increase fuel efficiency by approximately 0.0329%, improve handling, reduce parasitic drag, reverse certain types of male pattern baldness, increase libido, decrease sensitivity, nourish and repair split ends, whiten your teeth, trim your toenails, and has been clinically proven to reduce stress and symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder in cruelty-free trials of free range pronghorn antelope.

If you will be unable to fulfill this request, please notify me in writing prior to the above deadline. Thank you in advance for your timely attention to this important matter.

Regards,
Joseph

It's a factory aluminum manifold I think from a late 70s/ early 80s Camaro or Corvette application. Knowing the person I got it from, probably a Camaro. @82355, please advise.

I got the sealing surfaces cleaned up today and played dress up a little.

They didn't shrink over the summer and still won't fit with the egr valve. I'm on the fence whether to buy short chrome valve covers, short black valve covers, or sand and paint mine black.
