What do you guys think?

yeah, i think this is a 98... it's a nice truck, but it does have a bit of a clutch issue at the moment...

I'm just gonna hold out for the Dodge... hopefully sooner, rather than later I'll find one..

99 is the first body year for "superduty" thats also the bolt pattern switch as well, from 8on6.5 to 8on170mm. The 7.3 was availiable to '03.

There technically was not a 98 f250 or 350 heavy duty truck, 97 was the last of the old body style and the "super duty" body came out early but were sold as 99's. The only 98 F250's were those odd ball models that looked like the 150's and had the 7 lug wheels (basically a slightly heavier 150) and were labeled as light 250's.

I only know this because I was working at a Ford dealer at that time.

As far as the 7.3's go, like Demon said, leave it alone and honestly they are great, hop it up and good luck to ya :D

how's that 5 spd? isn't that a ZF box?

It's been a while, but I'm thinking they were zf boxes, IIRC they were pretty decent, I can't remember doing anything but clutches, no rebuilds or anything. I left there in 02 so some of the Ford tech is a little foggy :doah: :D

:haha:

cool, thanks... on with the Dodge diligence...

Ya, having owned, wrenched on, and spent lots of time with both (older ford diesels and Dodges of the era you are looking) I would definitely try to find the cummins you want.

well, as many read in my rant, I unfortunately am losing my funding daily for the Dodge.. it's just not gonna happen at this point....

so.... the new objective will be to get my sh*t straightened out, and start saving again.... I'll be able to put about 5 to 600 a month away for it... so hopefully it's in the cards for next spring/summer... in the meantime, I can get back to work on the K5, albeit, not with the funding I would have had... but still some..

and for a vehicle to drive, I'm gonna go see about this tomorrow.. maybe offer 1500 for it if it's decent.... it's VERY local from me... 5, 10 minute drive...

yeah, I'm kinda hoping it's an old man, been taken care of thing... just some pickup transpo for the next yr or so.. maybe I'll make it a hotrod once I get the Dodge...

and the fact it's doesn't have rot holes in the fenders is a good sign.. the neighborhood is right over by my marina...

it's 87, so I'm kinda hoping it's a 350 tbi... i'll report back...

it's got a 4.3 with a 3 on the tree!... didn't even know you could still get a 3 on the tree in 87.... I wouldn't even know what box that is... haven't driven one of those in 20+ yrs...

it's got 98, 000 miles on it.... it sounds stupid clean... retired guy has it, says it runs perfect... meeting the guy monday to take a peek..

That sounds cool. You could put a super t10 in it.

That is what my dad did... he ordered a 82 GMC from the factory with a 3 speed on the column just so he could swap in the t10. He wanted a standard but not the sm 465 style.

for now, it'd be a driver... the T10 would be a straight up swap? i was thinking about just throwing a hurst floor shifter in and keeping the 3 spd... really the truck probably wont see a ton of driving... just mostly local stuff, heck work is 2 miles down the road..... I still want the cummins tow rig in the next year and a 1/2 or so..

I've never owned a 4.3......

From what I remember the t10 was a straight in swap, just a new hole in the floor. My mom still has the truck but it`s got a th350 in it now.

I was kinda pissed when he took the t10 out...I really liked that trans in there, but he was sick and I guess he wanted a change.

Just for fun this is a pic of my dads 82
That is a old pic that I scaned from a photo so it`s not to good.

We are going to a wedding in B.C. next weekend so I need to take some new digital pics of it.

cool, my neighbor had almost the same thing in yellow for yrs...

if the truck drives good, I'm gonna see about picking it up for 1500... i really want a pickup for the utility of moving things... I'm betting that paint would probably buff up reasonable too... I wont mind putting a little time and money into this to make it decent around town kinda truck, as opposed to the nogo..

4.3 good little engine. Have one in my wifes 89 S-10 blazer, 190,000 miles. Other than a little valve stem seal leak, that thing runs great. I'm surprized with the get up and go it has also.

cool.. yeah, I'm not expecting some hotrod with that drivetrain in a full-size rig... but it may be a decent around town kinda rig as long as it gets out of it's own way...

Not that you need any encouragement, but my granny has a 94 full-size pickup with the tbi 4.3 and an auto. Without exaggeration, that truck goes sideways easy! Mash the gas and it fries the tires! Yea, both. I was full on shocked when I first drove it. I thought, Geesh granny I know you don't need power but you git a v6 in a full size? And then I drove it and ate that thought! Still can't believe how fast that truck is.
