Why EFI owners don't Program their own PROM's?

Ok, i have been reading up on this stuff ALL night now, So, with tuner pro, do i wanna download the super42.adx to stream the data? Is that all that it does? and the xdf, is it just a cleaner way of tuning the chip?

Ok you guys, i have tunerpro up and running! Checking out all that there is to play with right now! Looks incredible! I can tell this is going to be an obssesion! The tables! Look at all the tables! Now i just gotta figgure out what my motor wants and how to change it!

Is it possible to log with Tunerpro RT on a newer laptop with no serial port? I've always used winALDL on my old laptop, but TunerPro would be better. Wondering if I can plug the ALDL cable into a serial to USB adapter and have it work. It's been a while, but I thought I tried Tunerpro on the old laptop through the serial port and never got it to work for real time monitoring or logging.

The Serial to USB adapter will work with TunerPro RT. I was not 100% satisfied with the performance of the Serial to USB adapter.:frown1: I kept getting bad data from time to time when data logging. I ended up buying a USB ALDL cable, and getting bad data in the data log has all but ended.:smile1: I also like the fact that the USB ALDL cable does not need to be plugged into a 12 volt power source!:waytogo: If you already own or can borrow a serial to usb adapter, then try using it. If you need to purchase a usb to serial adapter, I'd recommend spending a few extra $$ and get a USB ALDL cable.

Send me a TunerPro RT V5 data log, and the current .bin file and I'll make a few suggestions on what to change. "Standard Disclaimer" I reserve the right to use the suggestions in a public forum.:D

or are you looking for the afbx thing? So im out in the truck. How do i start logging data with tunerpro? I dont see anything obvious like with winaldl.

Balls... Well i figured out half my problem was that i dowloaded tunerpro and not tunerproRT... Got that downloaded and installed. Still nothing. Opened up win aldl and i get a perfect stream there. nothing at all in tunerproRT.

And thats about all the time i have for today... Boo. Anyway, i had the amur bin open and the $42 xdf open and i could get no data. Dont know what the heck my problem was. Have to try again tomorrow.

I did however have some fun comparing the amur.bin and the 7747 performance.bin.

TunerProRT go to Tools, Preferences and acquisition and make sure your set correctly.

Turnoff TP, restart computer with cable plugged in, is it installed correctly. If so open TP and see if you got data.

If not go to control panel devices and find your cable, click on com3 and see if it's working properly.

I see there are a few members interested in data logging with TunerPro RT V5. My time is limited, so I'll post a few screen shots that I hope helps out.

Three files need to be loaded.
1. The .xdf
2. The .bin
3. The .adx

The .adx is a Data Stream definition file, very similar to the .xdf, but the .adx is for data logging. The .adx file is loaded from the Acquisiton pull down menu.

Ok so here is a screen shot of the upper left of my screen after doing what you said. Is this right?

Yup! But you may want to go back to a stock 42.ADX as I found some problems in that one yesterday!

Now about the com port thing, in WINALDL, I have to have it on com4 and the cord plugged into my left usb port for it to work. Would i need to change to com4 in TP also? If so, how do i go about that?

I hope its ok to link to other sites like this, but geez i just learned a metric ass ton! starting from this link,

http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/diy-prom/288763-prom-tuning-guide-book.html

which lead me to this which has done the best job so far of how to adjust VE tables based on BLM numbers,

http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/tbi/311540-tuning-new-cam-hints.html

From the second link,

Use WINALDL, look at the Wide Average BLM table. Then adjust your VE tables by using the BLM. Say that your BLM at 1,200 rpm and 80 MAP, is 135, divide it by 128(represents 14.7:1), then multiply the by the current VE in the VE table lets say 55%. That is 135/128x55%=58.00%. Enter that in the VE table. Do the same for the whole table. I ignore the information for any cell that has under about 10 data bits. No just the opposite, lets say your idle is rich. That would be around 114 BLM at 800 RPM and 45 MAP. For the example lets say the VE table has 28% in it. That would go as follows 114/128x28=24.93%

Im thinking when i get to mine, im going to use this method and combine the 7747 performance tune into it to hopefully come up with something of a ball park. To say that im getting excited about this is an understatement. On the other hand, im getting fairly nervous about the level of frustration im about to encounter!

Here is an Excel file that makes tuning even easier.

Oh man! Now i have to figure out excel too?!?

No, you don't have to figure out Excel. The Excel spreadsheet does all the math you described in your prior post. This Excel spreadsheet is basic, only need to copy / paste the information (BLM & VE tables) into Excel then paste the new VE table back into the .bin file. The Excel spreadsheet will save a huge amount of time!!

Dave, don't ever disappear from this forum. People are always going to be asking you questions about this stuff.

I will probably get into tuning my blazer after I finish some other things. I need to play with the 350 before I build my 406
