Square shaft might be the cost effective option... I am apprehensive about the square shaft though, I've read that they can bind under torque, won't let it extend or compress while in the throttle...

And can't they can be noisy while out of the throttle?

I want to get a doubler some day and that is when I plan on getting a real front shaft (HAD, Tom Woods, or the like), but for now I was planning on using a limiting strap.

The major factor I consider in every modification that I make is whether or not the truck will remain streetable. Square shaft would make a good trail spare though.

If you use receiver hitch tube it is very tight fitting and seamless. Low noise. Cheaper 2" 3/16 wall with 2.5" 3/16 wall works well but is noisier. I kick the front in and out of gear alot and it doesnt bother me when its noisy but people get to looking wondering what's about to fall off my rig.

It does not bind or limit me in any way. It is greased and bare tube. The cheaper tube has a seam inside so you grind a groove for the seam to allow that to slide. You can tighten up the fit with a couple stitch welds on the corners of the inside tube.

I love mine and have shredded gears and broken a chromo shaft and the driveshaft does well. I have broken too many of the CV heads so I just use the CV on the rear.

Yes I'm using a CV shaft. Actually worked out perfectly with the axle placement and 700R4/205 combo to use the front shaft from a 700R4/241 truck.

Now that I went from the 10 bolt to dana 60, I made the same shaft work again by using the ORD output flange instead of the factory NP241 output flange that I was using. The shaft just won't keep up with the 52" springs now.

I did get the throttle cable changed this morning.

Tried to do more but wifey woke up around 7:30 and said WTF are you doing in the garage right now?

I have the front shaft from my 700/241 setup. Wonder if it would work for you? Not saying I'd give it to you but I'd price it reasonably. It has a 1350 CV and 1350 at the other end. Long slip. I could bring it to the cruise Saturday and you could take it home and try it before you buy it.

I'm not going to be able to make to the cruise. Way too much left to do...
