feeling pretty good about this one. this is the biggest project I've ever taken on single-handed, and it turned out pretty good. :eek1:

I still want to add heat and a/c, but as far as the plans I put together last year goes, it's done!!

now maybe I can get some actual truck work done...

Very nice! What is size and eave height?
24' x 24' and 11.5' floor to ceiling. 16' x 10' door.

Well done dude! Truck looks kinda small in there...that's the dream!

thanks man. it's been a long year working on it, but feels good to have a place to play with the blazer.

had a little problem this weekend:
sidewall_hole.JPG

my tires are pretty old and until recently, I've been parked out in the sun, so the sidewalls are cracked pretty badly. Guess it was only a matter of time before one split. Luckily I wasn't too far from home and it wasn't an explosive blowout.

But now I have a problem. I need to buy new tires, but I really want to get new rims soon, but I don't want to spend the money now. the rims I have now are 15's and I'm thinking of going up to 17's. Not big enough to look stupid, but up a bit. I'm going to start looking just to see what's out there for a decent price since once I buy tires, I'm stuck with those rims for awhile.
Anyone got any suggestions about what kind of rims look good on our trucks? I'm so indecisive with this stuff.

Also, what size tires should I be looking at? I'm clueless with the new sizing numbers. I'm currently on 35"x12.50. Here is some side shots of the truck. Should I go a bit bigger?

I know I'm not a purist like some here, but I really like the look of H2's on a first gen. If you went that riute the rims could be had for cheap and then you could be running 17's. AFAIK there are plenty of sizes in 17 available. You should be able to find close to a 35x12.50. I'd stick close to that just so you don't tear up your pretty fenders...

I like the looks of the H2's as well, but they are 8 lug and I'm still running 1/2 ton running gear. That of course brings up another point. Eventually I'm going to want to upgrade my axles. I should probably try and keep things on the cheap for now, but on the other hand, I don't really "need" 1 ton running gear so that is probably a long way off... :dunno:

I like the look of 15" wheels on these trucks. 17" and up starts getting ghetto mall crawler looking if you ask me. Nothing personal to anybody on here running them, just not my thing.

I'd definitely go 17's and 35-37's....most tires are going into the 17-18 rims sizes now, The 17's will look just right with the 37's and perhaps even 35-36's.

Sorry dude, forgot about the 6 lug thing. I still agree with Dave though, 17's are more popular now. They're the new 15"... Not very many choices in 15" anymore and prices have gone up for them. I think you'll future-proof a little better if you go to 17's now if you can handle wheels and tires at the moment.

Yep....

I was forced into the 16.5s originally when I did my 1-ton swap and got those massive brake calipers on the D60.

33" tires used to be big, then the cool kids all went to 35s.... Then 38s, 40s, 42s, 44s, 49s and 54s!!! You really can't add that much diameter to a tire without increasing the rim size.... Imagine how heavy that tire would be. And yes, the manufacturers are driving us to the larger wheel sizes, like it or not. 15" & 16" are no longer the "sweet spot" for the best tire choices.

There is definitely an aesthetic balance between the tire size and wheel diameter. For me, the 17" is the limit in a 37-38" tire. Small wheels with big tires tend to look "ballooney", whereas the large 20"+ wheels tend to create a "low-profile", short-sidewall effect.

A great amount of blame also goes to the owners who put ultra-modern, hard-edged black/silver wheels on a classic truck. They are completely wrong (in ANY diameter) on an older vehicle.

Too mich rim imo. But i dig the old school balloon look. Does better in the sand too when you have more side wall :D

yeah, that is the other reason for going 17's, being able to clear big calipers when the time comes. I don't think I'll be swapping axles anytime soon, but if the right deal comes along, it would be nice to just switch rims and keep the tires. I'm guessing resale value on rims would be better than tires... maybe?

of course I've been looking at rims the last few days and nothing is really blowing my skirt up. I like the H2's and a few other take off rims, but everything is 8 lug that I like so far.

I agree with you guys about the black and chrome. I personally like more of a brushed aluminum type of finish. A little satin/flat black wouldn't be too bad I guess, but so far all of that is crazy over the top type rims anyway.

Two thing for sure that I'd do or wouldn't do. :)

1) Get some 17's. I have 16" and it's a big pain to try and find tires that will fit and work for what I want. I'm stuck with just a few of the many options out there.

2) Don't put H2's on a 1st gen. :tongue1: At least not on a 1st gen without the hubcaps like Greg was trying out some time ago. Those did look cool as hell. :smokin2:

a 315/70-17 will equate to a 35x 12.5

a 35 on a 17 does great for a truck that sees the street. nice sidewall without being so floppy and balloony.

100 thank yous for the "other" thread.

I'd really love to go up to 17's, but I just can't justify it right now. :( I might have been able to talk myself into it if I found a rim I really liked, but no dice.

Just gonna replace my 35" tires on my current rims since it might be a few years before I get around to that axle upgrade. (of course we all know that just because I said that, I'm going to come across a screaming deal on axles. /eyeroll )

Any suggestions on which kind of tire? I'm leaning towards Toyo open country MTs atm.

new issue... grrrr

I went to get the blazer inspected and I'm failing emissions and on the ps rear brake.

On the brake, the stop test shows that side hardly stopping at all, but when I pulled everything apart it looks fine. I put new rotors and pads on not long ago, so I thought maybe I was out of adjustment, but no dice. :dunno:
Is it possible that the 'T' between the rear brakes is clogged or something? the pedal feels good, but I'll rebleed the brakes just to be sure that isn't the issue.

Anything else I should look at?

as far as the emissions go. Carb adjust?
