You guys crack me up. I imagine you guys were rolling film for the Youtube channel during all this fun right? The footage and story should be awesome.

I realize I haven't given a proper after action report from blazerbash, but I promise it's coming. Trying to edit the the whole story down to a watchable video.

Suffice to say, I blew up 2 transmissions while there and it really made me not want to do anything blazer related for awhile.

That said, having a blazer sitting here with a broken trans couldn't last forever, so I finally did something about it.

After some research, I found d out that the 4l60e came behind the 5.3LS and the 4l65e came with the 6.0. The 2 transmissions are identical other than a few hard parts upgrades. Since I'm running a 6.0, it made sense to upgrade to the 4l65e. I talked to a local transmission shop and they said they could upgrade my 4l60e with 4l65e parts for about $400 over the normal rebuild cost.

That got me thinking. If I could find a 4l65e for less than that, I could have that rebuilt instead and save a couple bucks, but even better, if it works, I don't have to rebuild at all. So, after a little digging, i managed to find a 65 for $300. The guy said it ran, but for that price, I'm out nothing but labor to put it in and find out, so that's what I did.

I'm happy to report, that after a test run today, it seems to be working!

Took a quick trip to a local wheeling spot and so far, no issues. Got a nice pic while I was out.

Glad to see I'm not the only one swapping 4l60's in. I have done stupid amounts of research and networking about these trans. If you have any questions let me know.

Glad to hear it's working now go out and enjoy it like you have previously.

Y'all are for sure a minority. Everyone I've spoken to says skip it and go 4L80 which is probably what I'll do.
I don't think there is anything wrong with 60/65s per se, my issues were all self inflicted from using used transmissions of unknown history. In a truck, I probably would go with a 4l80 as well, but with a blazer the extra 3" in length was a no go for me. The driveline angles are already bad enough.

If I take the time to actually build one the right way, I'm sure it'll be fine. Hopefully the current one will work out for now so I don't have to spend the cash I don't have at the moment.

There's such a thing as a 4L70e which is further beefed up version of the 4L60e for the trailblazer SS.

GM sells crate versions as the Supermatic 4L70e. Good for 495lb/ft torque input. 5 pinion gear sets, heat treated stator splines, induction hardened turbine shaft and 7-plate clutches.

Just tossing that out there. 4L60's are like lays potato chips. You can't eat just one! Just kidding!

Glad to see the Blazer back on the road again.

Yes, should see the build sheet on mine. :haha: Even I can't break it and I drive like a donkey.

The more I drive mine with the 4500 the less I ever would go back to an auto in that truck. No goofy detent downshifts climbing hills. No worries about trans temp or cooler lines.
I had a 4500 before I switched to an automatic. Up until a couple of years ago, I'd never wheeled an auto before... kinda felt like cheating at first. :)

I got rid of the 4500 (and the 465 before that) because I hated the 2-3 split, but now that I've regeared from 3.73 to 4.88, I'm betting that the split would have been a lot less of a bother with these lower gears.

That's like everyone going with a d60, but I will stick with a well built d44.
Nothing wrong with these smaller parts, just not good enough for crazy driving.
I do my crazy driving with my cars, cheaper to maintain and fix.
My trucks I drive gentle. It's about making it back, and I always made it back

I know what you mean going from a manual to an auto. It did feel like cheating off road. Made me look like a smoother driver.

The gear splits on my 4500 with 4.10's and 35's isn't bad. But then again having more torque available in mine don't hurt.

I'll remember that when I think about you coming to run with us on poison spider after having flipped over. :)

That's probably true too. I had a badly tuned carb on an underpowered 383 at the time too.
