77 The Black Truck "Ratbag"

Can anyone tell me if I need to long or a short nose water pump to work with a V belt pulley system.

And where do you hook up the oil line for the oil pressure gauge? My SB hooks up on the block behind the intake near the dizzy.

Looks like there is a spot by the oil filter on the BB?

Correct me if I'm wrong but the only thing that used short water pumps were Corvettes. Everything else used long water pumps.

Pretty close Glenn, all Chevy's used the short waterpumps up til 68 when the acc. started getting bolted onto the heads and intake....Vettes, and pickups used them up to 72 model year.

You can use them Dean, if you have a full set, which might be pretty hard to find...my 76CC has it all including AC, let me know if you need some ref. pics.

So the long one is standard for most,I don't want to buy a pump and then have trouble finding the right parts.

How about the oil port? Were did you tap into Dave?
I looked on our 366 and it is above the oil filter... electric oil pressure sender on it.

the oil gauge port can be a few places. Front driverside above the oilpan rail, behind the dist on the driverside and above the oil filter on the driverside. You will use a stock long pump from most newer stuff.

Perfect Thanks!...except the part you said about behind the dist on the driverside. Didn`t see a spot there for it...thats were I was looking because it would be easy to hookup the hard line that I got already on my 305. :dunno:

But I could go electric...I got lots of gauge clusters.

well, let me think. Pretty sure they have a port up there. Let me see if I can find a pic of a bare block. Yep I am a wrong. I was thinking about a sbc. The closest one to the back is above the oil filter. Sorry.

No problem! I was on a chevelle forum today and all the other spots you said are the one`s they used. :thumb:

I think there is even one up my the front of the intake just above the water pump.

Dean, I'll have to dig a little here then. I think I have the water pump and some accessory brackets. If the oil cooler isn't there it may be in the same pile as the other crap I have for it here. I'll look next time I go out for a smoke...

All those gaskets are new, never torqued from what I could see. Pan and VC's I've had off, so the bolts won't be really tight.

You could run it like it is...but personally I'd swap the 781's on, add a cam and decent intake. Those three things will probably double it's power.

Not going to disagree at all about the heads but peanut ports aren't nearly as bad as some people think esp if you plan on keeping it below 4500.

Awesome Buddy! And I would love to change the heads intake and cam!!!
We will see about that!

Dean, my 83 block has the oil sender port above the oil filter...I used a mechanical gauge, and new copper line...

I have a Performer oval port if we could get it to one of the guys in the US, then relay it across the border it should be cheap to get it to ya!

Dave on your pic I thought I would need to use the port on the left of the one you used. Good pic!

I'll try to
phone you this weekend... let me know when it's good for you.

Dave, why'd you paint your block silver?

Dean I think the other port is return side so no pressure on it?
I get 80 on the one I used
Glenn it is a color combo I like on Chevy's orange pan and heads, alum or silver block and intake
