Housing inner tubes are CLEAN:

A little shave and a haircut, nothing drastic, just wanted to get rid of the big lower lip on the housing. I cut it with a sawzall, then used a 5" grinder, then a few touchups with a 36 grit disc sander.

Also got rid of the 2WD shock mounts:

I took some measurements today of the C&C, and SRW axles I have.

................................WMS width/ Spring ctr./ Back Plate width./ Hub protrusion
Cab & Chassis Housing........63"...........40".................48"................~4.5"

SRW 3/4t Housing..............67"...........42.25".............53.75"............~1.75"

Nice build. I endorse 1 ton axles.
I remember seeing Pulp Fiction when it came out and hearing that quote in one scene.;)

Thanks for doing this first:D. Perfect timing so I can follow along before I tear into mine this winter. What did the blast job cost you? Do you plan to weld the tubes to the housing?

I had the housing chemically stripped. I believe they use an acid solution to strip with, it cost 65$ for this housing. It took them 4 days including the w/e.

I do not plan on welding the tubes, as the weight is more on the outer part of the housing, and don't plan on jumping this thing. And the rear will be the lighter part of the vehicle. The plug welds look good (no cracks).
That's my reasoning anyway.

Yep, I've read some of the articles about that, but after putting in 90 minutes on doing this much, its done. I just wanted to get rid of the 1" square lip on the bottom. If it hits anything now, it will ramp up to the rear of the housing instead of hitting the wall that was there before. I got a 3/8" cover coming from Kert, and don't want to have to rework that also to gain a little more clearance.

I saw an article on Pirate about removing 2" and welding in a bottom plate in. Thats a little extreme for me on this project right now.

I love that movie, but don't recall hearing that. Tune me in would ya?

I ordered the rear diff cover, some shock mounts, disc brake caliper mounts, and shackle flip brackets from Kert @ DIY4X, (Cybrfire) a couple days ago, and got in on their CK510 discount for 10%. Thanks for the advice Kert and Tracy.

I talked with Jesse @ High Angle Driveline today, and ordered a 1410 ubolt yoke for the 14BFF, and the stuff I need to put the rear diff together. Dealing with Jesse is highly recommended, as his reputation suggests.

now I got to work on a few other projects while I await my parts.
I am trying to find time to get the body off the frame, and do more work to the Vette, and fix my daughters Honda...oh yeah got to get the Jeepster ready to go wheeling with Jess, and Daryl next weekend too. Still have to get the mower deck off the tractor, and get the snowblower on it, Can I take on any more?
Luckily its been unseasonable warm here the last few weeks, I hope it keeps it up for another couple weeks would be nice.

My computer is out for a little updating, and servicing by a friend, so I'll post up some more pics in a couple days.

My 3/4t housing is from a 2 wheel drive, and I want to change the shock mounts, as they hang low, and will just get destroyed.
So
1)Where do the 4wd mounts go?
2)Can I use the 2wd mounts and relocate for 4wd shocks?
3)What are some other options for shock mounts off the axle?

Can somebody throw up a pic or 2 or what you got.

When I relocated mine for better clearance, I mounted the shocks at the upper mounts and mounted the lower mounts (which I had cut of from the axle already) at the bottom end of the shocks.
Then I extended the shocks to a length I had calculated would be good at ride-height,
and welded the mounts to the axle where they touched it.
This was of course with the axle mounted to the truck, and at ride-height

I hope this made at least some sense...

I want to do something like that with mine when/if I lift them. I remember a guy on a forum saying he had his relocated up high enough that he used stock length shocks for his lifted truck. More clearance and the option of using parts store cheapy shocks.

that does help Fred, and Kert answered a few questions too. The mounts I'm getting from him will be put in place when the axle is under the frame, and suspension figured out for height. I can then put the mounts in place and figure the length of shocks. Appreciate the pics of what you've done.

That really makes sense AJ.
anything you can keep stock is usually cheaper and easier to find.
My granddaughter helped me move the Iron Maiden to the garage last weekend, and a pic of the Jeepster, and the Maiden fighting over garage space.
