I like the pic of pops sporting the man-daid!! :waytogo:

Guess you told him the unwritten rule of CK5...."if you get an injury during the build, you have to post the pics in the thread.". :deal:

Must be a great feeling working side by side with your dad in the garage.

Awesome stuff Dave! Glad you got to hang out with your pops and work on the maiden. That's a win win in my book :waytogo:

Sean, I think my dad has a personal pride in the Maiden as much as I do....you know brag about your boy kinda thing..:haha:

I've heard him talking with another old fella about the construction of it and what went on for build weekend a couple years ago!

Greg, he "had to laugh" about me putting a paper towel and duct tape on it in the shop....then when I told him we needed a pic he said "what the hell for"...:haha: I said we have to document it in case of future complications.... He just looked at me like I knew what I was doing. :dunno:

We worked for awhile, then I took him out for a pizza buffet for lunch before I headed to work...

Its so funny cuz he still has an eye for the ladies too...he asked if we could get a pic together, and asked the waitress if she wouldn't mind taking a pic.....he's still a playa!

That is awesome to see you and your dad sharing garage time!!!!:waytogo:

The progress is GREAT!!!
Looking good!

frame brackets tweaked to the frame (When I welded on the boxing kit, I welded it to the outside of the top rail and inside of the bottom rail...my bad works fine, but to mount something to it, its at an angle so the flange on the tank supports had to be tweaked to accomodate that angle...

like this pic...

cut some gussets for the tank support plates, got those welded on and started on the battery tray....we cut some pieces at Kerts, and I have to customize to fit my cage.

Looking good Dave.

Changed your mind about mounting the Optima at an angle on the wheel well?

Think it would have looked pretty sweet, but at least this way you're not tied to a dry cell battery in the future. :waytogo:

that was exactly the reason to Jim....ifn' I need to use a diff battery, this mounting tray will have the Optima six pack locating plate removable to allow for a conventional type to be used.

I was going to ask where that fancy profiled plate was.

Good idea, never know what style you may need to fit in that spot if required.

Looking forward to seeing this machine up close!:waytogo:

finally got to the shop again, welded together the battery tray pieces...this should work out quite well, the tray is in good and solid, just need to make a retainer for the battery to the tray now.

the tray is in good and solid

IOW, the battery is mounted in case you encounter a black hole and your rig is supercompressed into dark matter. There is a slight amount of overengineering there :D

You and Greg really ruin it for the rest of us, you know that? :haha:

Very cool setup Dave!

That tray...Awesomer! :waytogo:

Sean, Dean, thanks man, sometimes I have good results!

Its guys like Greg, Kert, Paul, Mike, Rene', Eric, Teck, and many others that have inspired me....blame them!

I can usually find something that is thought provoking in just about everyones build threads....I only hope to contribute some, as I have learned so much from CK5! Thanks brothers!

Today finished up the battery tray and hold down....now that was a way to spend 4 hours! making that hold down was 3 pieces to make that one...but its kinda different I think! The locator plate for the odd shaped battery is key, it keeps it in place on the tray, and the hold down is held on with 4..3/8" grade 8's. The two on top are tapped into the 3/8" plate on the cage, and the two in front go through the tray and into the hold down and a welded on nut. Quick easy to take off, no trying to get a wrench on the hidden nut, just a socket on the bolt head!
Cleaning and prepping the metal to throw some primer on takes a bit of time as well!

That turned out Great!!

I like the position you mounted it in much better than the angled option on the fender tub.

Very nice work!!!:waytogo:
