Is it possible that I'm using a too large of diameter filler rod?? It seems that unless I put a decent amount of heat the filler does not melt properly. I have my tungsten very sharp and have played with length also.

What size filler rod are you using? Filler to thick would be cooling the weld down to much, wouldn't flow unless you are over heat. If you have some .035 welding wire from your mig, use some of that, your weld size will be small and you'll use a lot per dab, but it will atleast allow you to see the small dot I'm talking about and run a bead.

It's 3/32 does that Sound right? I am gonna try the mig wire trick? That's a good idea. We also have smaller diameter filler around too.

Update!
Interior is completely gutted and started to bend tube for cage!

3/32 should be golden, try with the mig wire, work up into a thicker filer rod. Make sure you don't long arc either, that can create a lot of heat, undercut etc

I'll do that, I try to keep close to where I'm welding with my tungsten but maybe my drawing it out because it's a tube and hard to weld around..

Since the wife was out of commission this week, it delayed my progress a bit. Me and the boy made a trek to get some material and wheels from my good buddy, needless to say it was a disaster.. He got sick and plastered the back of my truck with vomit.. And I thought I was prepared for anything.. Boy I wasn't for that... Got the truck detailed and it's good as new.
That being said sat I went to the Offroad meet for 1450 crew and ate up my sat relaxing takin pics and spending money on as much as I could for the finishing items.

Today I got the interior completely removed, my buddy Dillon was a lifesaver, he's got a bad 73 and hope he'll join up soon.
Here's what we got done.

Kind of looks weird, I'm used to seeing the 1980s interior my dad put in there.

Bent the first roll cage tube!! Stoked

A better view of the lower hole where the floor bars coming through

Got my cantilever mocked up on the other side.. Measures to make sure they're identical.. And they are..

Dave had finished this earlier this week I wish I could weld like he does..

Makes it look so easy. This is the swing set.

I still have to plate the outside of this. Waiting on 4130 plate to come in so I can simple die stuff :)

More of the finished steering tie rods.

I bought these spring plates which I believe ruff stuff produces, NexGen Offroad is a dealer and they are so close in price it's nice I can buy it locale and support my guys here. I try to do that whenever I can because you can never replace in person experience and being able to have a shop close is very nice.

Again.. Daves welding is awesome..

Deaver made U bolts :) super nice and fit perfect.

I'm sure my neighbors are gonna love me, this is Blackwidows new race venom muffler. It's 9inches long and you can see down the middle. They sound awesome and no drone. I can't wait to hear these on my truck. They had a deal going at the meet I could not pass up.

Decided to completely switch to AN brake lines including the hardline as well. I have a willwood prop lever on order that I'll plumb in the console so I can adjust front pressure as I drive. The rear will be full pressure all the time. Also got a parking brake just in case I need it.. Most of the time the Trans will hold it but I figure it is better to have it then not.

Got a nice battery switch and it allows dual battery's in case I add another
I switched to push button start and already have my ignition on a switch for full 12v from a relay source.
Pictures here is the Delrin for the cantilever pivots and the steering swing set. Also the stainless brake line I'll be using for the moving parts.
I have limit straps on order (prp) and a few other misc items..

Soo.. I spent close to 550$ on all the fittings, they are not cheap. I figured do it right or not at all..

I discovered that the short course tires rubbed the radius arms pretty bad, and they're short course tires and I'll prob never see a short course, so I passed on those and I'm gonna run some wrangler mtr yellow labels instead. They're rounder profile to help some with that rubbing and they're a desert tire, that means the sidewalk is much much tougher than the other

No I'm not using these sweet stock ford rims either..

not sure where my head was but 3/32 is probably to thick. I run a 1/16. I was just moving stuff around and saw the box.

Carry on. Haha

I removed all the rear suspension components last night to weld all the brackets up, this a huge step and was kind of nerve racking, I have measured everything probably 10x or more just to be sure its dead on.. no turning back now. I also put my order in at Aircraft Spruce for the chromo plate that will gusset the cantilever and the steering swinger and any shock mounts etc.. I have to put this on its wheels (literally) before we start the cage, its just too hard to maneuver around the lift so hopefully I'm on the home stretch for that goal.. only some welding, a few tires being mounted and reassembly away..
