Getting after it. Going to have it done to bring it to Dunefest this year? Beams need to represent.

Hmm, haven't been getting notified on your thread for some reason... Just popping my head in to say hi, and hurry up! Oh, and by the way, mine is running first :flipoff7:.

So I was curious about the Ass Vault name and did some digging online. As far as I can tell, the company started out making suspension seats hence the name Ass Vault and then branched out to making limit straps and maybe some other stuff. Personally I think the branding is EPIC and hilarious especially on items that are not seat related. I would definitely love to have something on my rig that said Ass Vault just to make people go WTF?

Bring it fellas! And beer! I got enough room for at least 2-3 motor homes. I plan to take off the next KOH week of funds allow..
Btw if anyone didn't already know that is not my shop.. I have a normal garage I normally work out of..

Ok on to my welding.. So my buddy has been pretty busy and my ADd kicked in and paitience went out the window for some learning! Lol to be as forthcoming as I can, I would not normally post any of my bad work.

Here it goes image.jpeg

This has three passes hence the big weld.. I got some weirdness going on the last pass.. I have a grinder!!

Same thing here multiple pass.

When going uphand with MIG get the heat and wire speed set so you can just push it straight up. No weave, no trying to stack dimes...just a straight push upward. Multi pass is just fine if needed, in fact it is stronger than a weaved single pass.

If you learned uphand with stick, forget everything you learned before trying uphand with MIG.

How would I know it was set right?? Are you saying straight root passes and move 1/8in per second or faster?

If it's set right the bead face will have a normal profile just like a bead done in any other position. Drop the voltage a little, and drop the wire speed a little and try a couple of inches up on some scrap. If it's humped up in the middle, lower the wire speed and try again. When it's set right the travel speed will be a little slower than you're otherwise used to, but the weld will look like it was done in any other position. Any manipulation of the puddle uphand will result in grinding...

If you find the bead looks good but small, then multi is fine. Remember bead size doesn't need to exceed material thckness...so welding on 3/16" material doesn't need anymore than a 3/16" fillet.

Watch your bead man. I mean really get up close and personal. When I am having issues it helps to really get my eyes close to the bead.

Close enough in some trouble spots I have had I have melted the plastic lens protector

I have been fine welding downhill with Mig.

Got several pairs of Ford shock towers I welded on different trucks that have been fine for years.

Of course it's all different. I had one guy could not believe anything would hold welded downhill. Did a couple test welds and ripped em apart. My vertical up and vertical down were good. But the vertical down was more aesthetically pleasing.

Hence I started doing most vertical welds downhill.

I have never had a vertical down fail. That how I was taught in school.

I welded the hole punch head back on my iron worker 7 years ago.. It was vertical down and hasn't moved.

You need a bit more heat, if you don't have the capacity for more heat, drop the wire speed

Upping the gas flow a tiny bit has always helped me as well. Argon is heavier than air and will sink pretty fast. I use the technique Rene described. Up the heat and let her humm.

Get some cheater lens so you don't have to get so close.

I don't usually anymore but it helped me a ton when I really started welding alot.

I hate cheater lenses my brain doesn't comprehend the distance my head is vs the size my eyeballs are seeing freaks me out
