'81 K5, "BlaZeus"- How to NOT build the ultimate budget K5; 3 & 4 link build

After taking a few days to rest and deep clean and organize the shop, I am finally able to work on some of the projects that got put on the back burner since the burnout for BB16 started and is now over.

So the 4.3 in my Willys is toast. So I was thinking of swapping in a 454 to BlaZeus and putting my 350 in the Willys?

Got some work done on BlaZeus yesterday for the first time in a couple weeks....got a new 160 thermostat and fans out of a windstar(thanks to Chad @bigblock72 for the suggestion) and installed the thermostat and will see where that leaves me temp wise.

Also have been working on remounting the front clip. If anyone saw it at BB16, there were some huge gaps between the hood and fenders and lights and grille. U G L Y. But now, should look clean...

After your moab experience do you think you will be back next year?

Sorry if I seemed rude at BB, you caught me at McDonalds eating a 2 foot sandwich lol.

Yes! I'm hooked! I wanna conquer mickeys hole!! Lol jk. We will see. If I do, it most likely will not be with BlaZeus. After I get the front clip all plumb and tied in and then either paint or wrap the whole truck, I am going to try to trade it for a clean stock or mildly built first gen or if I decide to buy a house next year, sell it and use money for down payment and pay off debt. I'm done with smog...and debt.
But I'm planning to still have Wilfred and will work on building that, so most likely that will be the rig I bring...but depends on a lot. Lol.
Haha no worries! Honestly I don't know anyone's real names so most I met at BB I had no idea who they were on here...:dunno:

I don't know what fan you were running before but it seems the Windstar fans are pretty good. Hope it helps. I would stay away from the 160 stat though. It wont help with overheating and can often make things worse.

What is the difference between a fully open 195 stat and a fully open 160? Nothing, both will flow the same rate once open. If you are hot with a 195, you are still hot with a 160. A lower stat will only make a motor run at 160 if it is CAPABLE of running at that temp. (Like a boat maybe, with constant fresh cold water)

Anyway, you probably have other issues going on. Hope they go away with the fans.

Well we think my tstat was not working at all so that's why I replaced it. Just because the t stat opens at 160 doesn't mean that's the temp that my motor is gonna be running at. I'm also hooking each fan up to independent switches to have more control over the cooling system. But thanks I'll let ya know what I find out.

That's the way my first year was, after that I got more familiar with the group. I always tell everyone their first year is the weirdest.

Haha yep...it was a bit strange...especially cuz I missed the BBQ which I'm sure was a great opportunity to meet people.

It is the social event for sure. But being here and then meeting the people you interact with is pretty cool

Also, if you've wheeled with other people, then wheel with the CK5 clan, you'll realize what a special group it is

Very true. Nate told me the same thing after his first run with CK5ers. Before that it had just been the local club.

Has anyone installed their windshield back into the molding before? Looking to get BlaZeus back driving on the road and picked up a windshield today from the salvage yard.

Using the old molding? I did this in a 79 Ford but haven't tried it in a GM. I would say as long as it's in good shape it should be ok.

I've done a couple. Like mentioned as long as the seal is ok

When I did mine I didn't bother trying to pry the old windshield out. I just kicked it out and it kept the gasket in good shape.

paid $210 for someone to drive to my house, put a new window and seal in, with standard seal... no inner strip. I worked on something else while he finished. Then.... it was done :D

I did that the last time and it was nice...even though I am no longer a broke college kid trying to build a bad ass budget blazer, I am now just a cheap, employed, post-college bast#%* who is still trying to build the baddest budget blazer this side of the Mississippi...lol :saweet::screwy:
Lol jk....kinda...I think more of it was the fact that the last time the guy came and put a windshield in for me he said that it was pretty easy and that I could do it if I had to next time...so I decided to try it...and if I effed up then I could always call them. :woot:

Installed and wired up the windstar fans, they work great! image.jpg
However, I could not get them to run through a fused relay and fused switch. I was using a 30A fuse and wired everything exactly like this says too and after the first time running them, I have blown the in line 30A fuse everytime right when I turn the switch on.IMG_8292.PNG IMG_8293.PNG I have checked all my grounds and checked and fixed all my connections and still cannot figure it out. Anybody have any tips or do I need to run a larger fuse for these?
