86 K5 -"Jacob's monster truck" with a Cummins swap

I have a '86 I'm finally puting back together. My 8yr old has been asking how to work on it , so when he gets old enough he can help. I just my have to die first for him to get this one.

Mine was painted about 8yrs ago, They sparyed a rock guard on the bottom before painted and clear coat, and it looks really good.

Very similar, the 2nd pic (of your dash) looks identical to mine in it's current state. Your way ahead of me though, my frame and body are still 45miles apart . Hopefully I will remedy that in the next week or so, as soon as my schedule and the weather cooperate I am going to spray the underside then get my frame back where it belongs.

Once I finish the top half the body is coming back off to build and powder the chassis.

Where did you get the front spring hangers. Do they drop the mounting point any?

I built the front spring hangers, they are based off of Kert's (DIY4X) design of his B52 hangers. They drop the springs down 1.5" and I will make shackles to match once the front axle is in. I used all 1/4" plate for the gussets and body mount and the "spring mount" portion started out as a piece of 4x8 rectangle tube 1/4" wall. That gave me the 3 1/2" inside width to match the springs/ bushing combo I'm using. With the 6" springs, the hangers and the ez inch (front axle 1.5" forward) I will be around 8 1/2" of lift, plus the ORD 1" body lift.

I have 8" Skyjacker soft ride springs, had a 3" body lift that I don't want to put that back on. So I'm trying to get alittle more out of the spring mounts. Back should be easy w/ drop shackles. Just trying to figure out the front.

Well a few little updates, I have my firewall mocked up, just need to weld it in. I also finished up my core support, and cleaned/ painted my pedal assembly. Cleaned and painted my $125 swampers, Jake is all about "his giant tires"

Everything is prepped and I am going to spray the underside with the liner on Sat, so my frame is coming home with me today, and hopefully back under the truck on Monday

I dont forsee any issues, I did "mod" the gun a bit . I made a little elbow to keep the hopper pointed up more when I am spraying from underneath. I'll post up some pics of it and the results this weekend, and I'll send you some before and after shots as well.

How did you make that elbow? I was thinking of creating something like that, I've had a few customers ask me if I had anything like that.

That is an awesome idea, it'll make spraying under there a heck of a lot easier!

I just used a 1 1/4" (IIRC) pvc elbow from home depot , it fits perfectly over the inlet on the gun and I used a reducer/adapter inside of the elbow for the hopper to clamp on to (same outside diameter as the gun inlet). I think it cost me like $2.oo to make it and a few minutes to assemble/ glue and test fit.

I don't have my camera with me today, but I will snap a pic of it when I get home and send it to you.

I took his idea and ran with it. Found something at the store that works perfect and put it up in our store.

It's a bit different than what he did, but it'll work just as well and it is a simple pop on and go.

Operation "AL's Underside"

Well it's all done, the underside is now coated in Al's black spray on liner, first off let me thank Bryan (Blaze) for all his help and recomendations and for selling what I am convinced is the best DIY liner kit on the market . Honestly I did alot of research on liner kits and have personally helped apply or have used most all of the other ones out there and I am very happy with my decision to try Al's.

I will go into more detail about any tips and hints later, I had a 12 hour shift today and tomorrow is going to be longer so I have got to get some sleep.

But I won't go with out some pic whoring

Yes, it is great for that as well. And yes, you sand it down to clean it up. I use a cup brush, but you can use a wire wheel, sandpaper, blasting, etc. It also helps to rough the surface and promote adhesion of the Al's.

And he did a FANTASTIC job with the undercoating!
