'91 K5 Four Wheel Camper

This is the build for my 1991 V1500 Blazer, AKA the K5.3. It started out life being sold to the U.S. Government with a 350 TBI/700r4/241 combo. 4 years with a 5.3/700r4 Combo and now moving to an 8.1L Vortec and NV4500 5-speed.
The main reason I thought 'A' pillar is it being farther down. I don't know if it would help her as much as one above though.

I like your idea for it, I just hope that you can get the nut serts in without pulling the windshield.... not that cheating that mount is an option!

When I borrowed the nutsert tool from my tech I had looked at doing that. The glass is most certainly in the way. Although, I did find a different style of nut sert tool that works more like a standard pop rivet gun. Might provide the extra clearance needed for the tool to set the insert into the pillar.

Video of our "trail maintenance". Yep that's my wife swearing like a sailor. LOL.

My wife was a master craftsman of the f-bomb. A real artisan. It could be a verb, adjective, adverb or most of a sentence. She's gotten better about it over the years though. People thought it was my fault for a while - something she picked up while I was in the military but I never used it like she did.. lol

Would think that an axe or saw would be part of the mandatory kit if you're up in wood country.

Pretty sure I heard a karate chop on there

Yeah she said that. She was talking to my buddy John. She was pretty punchy on the trail. Kept me entertained.

She's got a degree in dropping the f-bomb for sure. When it's just us the bombs get launched back and forth. It's childish, but it keeps it interesting.

Normally, one of us has saw of some type with us. John took his out before the run. I usually take one if I'm camping. Given what we ran into, one will get put in my "boonie" box. I really need to get the bumper and winch installed. It might have helped.

That lady wasn't my wife. She was someone we ran into on the trail with her husband in a Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. Watch and you'll see her give my Blazer some love. Pats the fender and says she loves these old Blazers. Thought that was pretty cool considering the 21st century techno-wheeler they were in.

Here's some trail footage coming down the west side of the pass. I forgot to shut off the camera when we stopped to stretch our legs at the end of the trail. More commentary from my wife talking to my buddy John.

Whoopsies. Aside from meeting you last summer I have no idea who is who.

No problem. My wife wasn't at the car show when we met. She rarely goes to any since the heat messes with her too much in the summer. Camping out at a car show all day is a good way to have her ms flare up from getting overheated.

I believe it.

Did I ever share the pic of baby breaking the "don't touch this truck" rule while we were talking? She just couldn't get enough of that shiny chrome bumper. :haha:

absolutely love the build thread.

I was stationed in Carson back in the early 2000's, almost moved back but wound up in Oklahoma again. My wife and I are just about to start on our 78 build. I had a 91 K5 that i sold a few years back and while this rig has a new 350 Goodwrench motor and runs nice, i know im going to want more power later. Ive communicated with Larry a couple times re: the k10 build, so ill probably be bugging you both when the time comes.

All the trail pics have me really missing the rockies!!

Are the seats basically the same seats as any 07-13 Gm truck? does the pass side fold forward?

Don't know if I saw it before, but what mufflers are you running on this thing? That 5.3 sounds really good!

I'm running Thrush welded mufflers. 2 1/4 true duals with a balance pipe. No cats.

@RubberFloorMat , thanks for the kind words. Carson is just up the road from us. Always fun when they do live fire exercises sending shells down range. We hear it down in Pueblo! Thanks for the service too! Seats I used are of the gmt800 variety. That generation of truck started mid year 99 up to 2007 as the Silverado or Sierra classic. Mine are from a 2001 Silverado. Larry did an awesome job getting the build going by doing all the heavy lifting for sure and either of us are willing to help when you have questions. Fire away!

If you both like the build check out the gm of the month thread, I got nominated. Not to pander or anything... Lol.

@campfire no I never saw the kiddo checking herself out on the bumper. It does explain the teeny handprints I found later though! Too cute.

Hey, drumming up support like that doesn't seem fair. I got nominated too, once upon a time...

:haha:
Not drumming, just reminding. :pimp:

Hahahaha. Yes, cute is the word for it. She had no idea she was making more work for you. :wink1:

She didn't make any more work for me. The owner wiped the truck down once we got it back to the shop. He won't let anybody else touch it.
