'91 K5 Four Wheel Camper

This is the build for my 1991 V1500 Blazer, AKA the K5.3. It started out life being sold to the U.S. Government with a 350 TBI/700r4/241 combo. 4 years with a 5.3/700r4 Combo and now moving to an 8.1L Vortec and NV4500 5-speed.
Thanks Rob and Robbie. Between Robbie running his tail off and all the time/work you spent putting together this video I consider myself very lucky to wheel with you guys.I am very grateful to have been a part of this adventure
It was out pleasure be out there with you and your son. Hell, everyone was great. It makes an event like this so much fun when everyone is pitching in, guiding the noobs like us and still having a good time.

This video was different since my son did the hustling to get my second go pro on a mini tripod set up in different spots. It wasn't just the same viewpoint I always get. My only regret is not capturing more of the rest of the group going through the more difficult fun spots. It makes the video more interesting to watch to me.

Between my fun after Christmas, the weight restriction and generally crappy weather not much going on down in Pew-town on the Crawlabego. Building up the war chest for the drivetrain swap-a-roo and prepping for this years desert trip.

Most of the DT20 work so far is laying down the rough map of the trails to hit in central Utah. Most are leaving it to me, but as we've found the plans may change in an instant due to weather or breakage. But the general idea is stick to the San Rafael Swell west of Green River UT. We want to revisit where we started out our trip in 17 but go further south of I-70 through Eagle canyon below the highway. From there it's up in the air, but I've got a few cool trails to research further.

An upgrade from our resident communications guru is that we bump our radios up from the CB's to GMRS units. Even with my tuning on the antennas for the CO group others just had a rough time staying connected. They got pretty spread out in Death Valley last year due to the dry conditions and high dust factor and the communications got rough. I'm jumping one up to get a dual band HAM unit that can be unlocked to run on the GMRS/FRS frequencies. Yes, I know it's not kosher, but I'll get my HAM ticket and keep the power setting in line for the GMRS frequencies. For no more than I'll use the GMRS side I don't think its an issue. I picked up an antenna and cable setup to run off of the front fender opposite of the radio antenna.

I did fix the lock on my Tuffy console this weekend though. Lost the arm that latches it off of the lock and could not find it. Short of taking the whole console out and looking underneath it, it's gone. The new lock comes with an arm and it's only $9 from Tuffy so it was a no brainer to order a new lock set. It took a few minutes to accomplish. It was the first time I've opened the garage door in over a month to do anything so I'm calling it a win.

I'll have to keep track when you guys come over and run down for a meet and greet at least if my junk isn't mobile. That's just across the desert from me. Other than a few miles from my house across town I can take dirt all the way down to that area.

When it gets closer and we solidify the plan I'll post it up. We usually will hit a hotel for the first night and get something to eat. From there we typically hang out in the parking lot with some beverages catching up.

I'm excited for the trip report!!!
I'm excited to go! Might have an empty passenger seat if you got free time in June....:waytogo:

Well, and the 8.1 stuff when it starts.
Between my lack of parts and Larry filling the shop with his father in law's sportside for the intake/injection swap, we'd be pushing the time table to be done before the trip. Right now the truck is dead on reliable (knock on wood) so there's no reason to blow it apart until I have everything needed to get the swap done fairly quickly. If I can get a family member's C5 Corvette Convertible sold it would quicken the parts procurement process greatly.

I'm not going unless I have my own rig there! :D:1zhelp:

I totally understand that. I have only bought parts for my 8.1 swap when I sold other parts for money. Not touching the bank account for this swap was my rule #1. I'm doing good so far.

Also, post some pics of the C5. My dad loves corvettes.

I totally understand on wanting to drive your ride, I could have been along on earlier trips but I wanted the experience of driving. I'm the same way but I cleared out a lot of stuff I had extra at the start of the main build of the truck. Flipping this Vette should work for building funds. When I have pics I'll share for sure. But I'm told it's under 10k on miles and in primo shape. Might need some cleanup from storage, but other than that it should be very presentable.

You guys sell parts to buy other parts?

I know right? Amazing!

I have no such compunction. I'm willing to ride shotgun. Though that hasn't always worked out so well when I've tried it. :pimp:
No bad mojo dude!

Bonus points for being on page 91 of the 91 k5 thread...
That's a certain type of symmetry, isn't it?

Yeah, no. Oil burners have a place I just don't want to go through the BS of putting one in mine. It would have an 8.1 way before any thought of a dirtymax enters my brain.
Just wanted to kick this post to the front...

I need parts. Many parts. But the build thread is cleaned up of old photobucket links. Plus a snazzy index on page one thanks to you dude! I totally appreciate the help.
You're welcome!
It makes it so easy to help others when you can find your own part numbers!

I guess I get to join the dimple die club now. One of the guys at work has his own plasma table and dimple die set. He cut a chunk of 1/8" steel and swiss cheesed it for me. It's a filler panel for in between the bumper and forward to the body right below the door of the camper. It's pretty unfinished without something there and a good place to catch your foot on the way into the camper. Well not my clown feet, but the wife could get caught pretty easy.

I brought the step plate home from my guy at work today to mock it up. Fits like a glove in all directions. It should be pretty sweet once burned in and painted to match. Here's how the overall view looks.
