'94 Dodge service truck DD/Tow rig build

Well I had to waste a bunch of time yesterday morning tearing stuff apart to get to the timing cover crank seal AGAIN. I did it when I tabbed the KDP when I first got the truck but lately it's been leaking like crazy so I had to do it again. When I pulled the seal it had a fold in the lip so as much as it was a pain at least it was obvious what was wrong. So I cleaned it all up, inspected the crank to check for wear and put it back together using the install tool so I should be good to go now. It hasn't leaked a drop since I did it and I've driven it quite a bit yesterday and today.

Ok onto the fun stuff. I got my gauges installed today. :)
Isspro EV1's... just boost and pyro. I'll let the pic's speak for themselves...

I also got a fuel plate and boost elbow. I'll put them on this week sometime. I think all this truck needs to be "done" is a new windshield, a headliner, a good clutch and a decent stereo. Not too bad for where it started. :)

Looks like those gauges will be next expensive purchase too, they look awesome

I got my whole setup from Geno's Garage. If at all possible I'll continue to make all my diesel purchases from them. I got a new fuel shut off solenoid and a diode from them a while back and this order had my dash mat, gauges, pod and everything to make them work and it was priced very competitively and got here quickly.
They even included their own 3 page instructions/tips that were year and gauge specific that was kinda handy.

I've been slacking on the updates...

Since I last posted I installed a "0" fuel plate in the stock location and tuned the AFC housing.
I installed some Firestone bags (best thing I've done so far!) as well as picked up some little odds and ends for the interior off of eBay.

One of the best things lately though is I FINALLY tracked down a clean bumper. I got it off a parts truck for $60 and threw a little plastic paint on it and called it good. :)

Next on the list is a headliner, windshield and headlights then it's just the big ticket items. I need to decide what clutch I'm going to buy then do some more research on EGT control. It does ok but it'd be good peace of mind if I could drop them a little. I liked the idea of water/meth injection but it looks like a bigger turbo or even a compound setup utilizing the stock turbo might be a better route.... we shall see.

If you have the money , get a South bend Dual disc Towing setup.

As for EGT's I would Find a HX50 for a top turbo and make your own twins setup and do HX40 Hybrid out of your stock turbo.
and then add Water Meth. you will have a towing monster

I've heard good things about the Con OFE's... I'll probably just call them when the time comes and see what they recommend.

got a vote for Valair here. pricing destroys the south bend guys and my clutch gave me zero issues, and is still holding up behind a 21 year old male that bought it from me. i think the clutch will help you with the egts, a slipping clutch doesnt help burn fuel...
the other thing you could do if you arent planning on going too much more fuel, is look into a hybrid 35/40 setup. way cheaper and still a decent tower.

i would do a turbo before water meth to help with the temps. if the temps are too high than the right answer is airflow. water meth will help and definitly is a good tool, but i think the turbo give more benefits across the board....and THEN do water meth!

I would walk before I bought another Valair I had 3 catastrophic failures in my 98 12-valve dually there customer service sucks too.

We put a south bend dual disc in it and its been great ever since. 100,000 plus miles grossing close to 35,000 lbs alot of the time

damn.
thats about that what it looks like. some people have the craptastical experience with valair. some have great. i guess i got lucky on mine :dunno:

Yeah, a bunch of us down in New Mexico bought Val-airs around the same time . none off our trucks were "bombed" we just had Power mods and towed heavier then what our clutches ( and factory replacement clutches could handle ) so we got the Val-airs since they were so much cheaper, well we found out why. The South Bends are more money but in the end it would have been cheaper to go with them from the get go once you figure in all the down time

That's the plan, turbo then if necessary a water/meth setup (which I doubt it will be once it's getting enough air).
I've been looking at those hybrid 35/40 setups, seem like good bang for the buck.

I ran a south bend dual disk 3600 solid hub clutch behind my mean 24v it held up great. Tons of 3rd gear launches, rode hard and put away wet. I beat that truck like a rented mule. It always came back for more.

I tried my hand at a little interior work this morning. Nothing special but I had no headliner before, just the foam so I pulled it out, stripped the foam and covered it with some material.

Looks good. Need to do something like that with The Blazer's headliner.

LOL ok that makes sense! it looks really good what did you use to attach the new fabric?

Loctite spray adhesive. It was like $11 for a can but it worked great!
I got all the old foam off and scuffed up the surface then my dad and I laid the material out and folded it in half then sprayed that half and together laid it down and worked the creases out. Then we did the same for the other side.
I'm sure there's a lot of ways to do it but working from the middle out seemed to work pretty well.

I'm not sure what this material even is. I just went to the artsy fartsy store and looked around until I found something that matched and was really light weight. It's so thin you could stretch it and see daylight through it but I figured the lighter the better.
