Didn't think about that, I bet you are right.
Pretty cheesy way to mount the exhaust if that is what they were for.
Put my welder together today, then used angle grinder to make a cut in the hood off the chalet to try out welding. Looks like I'm going to need a little practice, and maybe somebody to come over and give some pointers.

all good man, everyone has to start somewhere. I'll be doing much the same thing here soon, probably with similar results.
Figure it will take a week or so of messing around with it, hopefully.
Looks like you're using flux core wire, not shielding gas right? If so that will definitely look worse and need more cleanup after welding than MIG. It should still work out fine for you, just go slower. Flux core puts a ton more heat down than small diameter MIG wire.
Flux core. It came with a gas kit, if I can't get the hang of this I might try the gas.
If you have the kit I'd recommend getting a bottle of gas. Makes MUCH nicer welds on sheet metal and has far less cleanup after the fact. You'll thank yourself in the long run. The gas costs more but will produce a better result. Just be glad you're not out here, a bottle of gas is $175
On the mainland it's usually like $30 to fill a small bottle

That thing ready for opening weekend?
Damn I wish. Had a nice lease drop in my lap 2 weeks ago. Been bustin it trying to get stands, camp, and feeders built before season opens this Saturday. So basically I've been sidetracked with other stuff, hope to get back on the truck in a couple weeks.
Might have to have a local CK5'r pig or varmint hunt after deer season is over....
I built 2 of these. 10' towers, 4x6' box at the top. I walled the top to keep the wind out, but like the tops open then slapped some paint on them. Camo netting is temporary until they weather a little bit and the poor little unsuspecting deer get used to them. Will get some pics of the lease and other stuff
I'm working on next week.

Pointer, when using flux core you have to drag the gun. As in you point the tip back towards the start of the weld and drag it that way pointing back. Otherwise if you point it forward you are trying to weld over the flux coating given off
Also keep the tip 1/2"-3/8" away from the material for best results. If it feels like its jumping around it is one of those two factors, or your wire roller isnt tensioned correctly. (I talked to my welding teacher for some mig tips so im not bsing or anything

Yep. It should like this when done, much easier when you skin the head right off the bat.
Hunting season is pretty much over and it is warming up a little, so trying to get back on it. Making some progress on the firewall and cleaning up the windshield frame so I can paint that when I do the firewall and then have the windshield and new seal installed.
Any idea what the gaps at the bottom of the windshield are for? Po had all kinds of silicone and body putty around the windshield which I am cleaning off. I'm guessing they leaked, so going to fill them in with some sheet metal unless they need to be left.......
Not ready to paint, just hit it with a little of the new color for comparison.

maybe its so you can get the windshield in and out? don't you have to thread a string under the windshield seal in order to pull it without breaking it? it's been a long time, just guessing.
I don't think so. I've got a friend that does windshields and he came over and pulled it out. Think he just had a tool that slipped under the seal that he used to work it out while I pulled on a couple suction cups he stuck to the glass.
