PLAN B

This build was 2 parts 1 i have a truck I made to pretty to wheel so I'm building an ugly one I can actually enjoy. And 2. My cousin has been trying to join us for blazer bash but his truck wont be ready so we are surprising him with this one
How far up you boat siding it ?
I'm going to go up as far as I can keeping the doors and hopefully having the windows work even if it's not the entire way down. I need to pop a panel and look at what I have to work with

The window regulator goes almost to the bottom of the door. So to get full window travel, you will basically cut it just above the sill plate.

I'd pull the door panel and cut the door then cut to match.

I have a couple ideas rolling around in my head to get the rocker higher while still maintaining full window operation

Go on.....

You have seen how rusted the truck is. Basically I need to cut as much of that off as possible but keep my doors and windows. I have power windows but I may have a set of doors with crank windows if that will give me a little more.

I will go exactly as high as physically possible. (Keeping the doors and windows)

So instead of welding in one solid peice of say 2x4. Section that peice down for the doors. Essentially cut a section out for the doors, this will give you at least an inch extra clearance vs just welding in a straight piece.

I think it will require some creative bracing, on the door bottom, to the slider itself and even on the actual slider so the force is spread enough to prevent the sectioned part from buckling. I think it is doable though

Or you could get creative with the window. Make one that snaps in, or zippers in or ? so made out the same stuff as a soft top.

Not sure if there is enough glass to cut it down and limit the regulator. Or change it to something else. Certainly interesting to think about.

So what affordable plasma cutters would you guys recommend? I think it would be a good idea to have that before boatsiding

I love my versa cut 60 from eastwood. Consumables are a bit pricey and don't last too long but thats probably because of my air drying system isn't the greatest.

Actually a 5" or 7" disk worked best for me when I cut my rockers out for sliders.
I was actually thinking a 7" grinder with a cutoff would be nice but I wasn't sure how it would fit in some areas. Pretty sure I saw an episode of Hot Rod Garage or something on You Tube where they shortened a frame using one of those gas chop saws. LOL

I missed most of this build...just read all of it. I like it! :waytogo:
Cool that you get help from a bunch of CK5 guys! Great pics from Moab too!

Could do something like this. The periods are just for placement but you get the idea

Built not bought

Warmer weather is heading our way... that means I can start cutting soon.
My plan of attack... knock out the rust on the bottom of the door to see just how far up I can cut. Looking through the holes it looks like I may be able to go up as much as 4" on the door if i find a way to attach some lower brace thing to the door, (should be easy to figure out) If that's actually the case I will basically be able to cut up as high as I originally planned.

I looked through the holes in the door and had someone cycle the glass up and down and i didn't see anything hanging lower than that motor so I MIGHT be good.

I want to do the doors first, then trim the fenders back, then measure for the side beams, then cut the sides and start working crap in.
