This build was 2 parts 1 i have a truck I made to pretty to wheel so I'm building an ugly one I can actually enjoy.
And 2. My cousin has been trying to join us for blazer bash but his truck wont be ready so we are surprising him with this one
Im looking into winches, i found a smittybilt 15.5 for $475 local never been installed but would be buying private party,
Or i can get the 12k from ebay for $500.. o can hold my breath and see if its cheaper on black Friday.
Nice thing about buying new from a dealee is a warranty.
My question is, is the 15.5k overkill? And how important are warranties on these things?
(Side comment, im looking at the waterproof ones so i can go through everything and wet weather)

I’m pondering these things too. I even looked into the X bull 13000lb winch and was really surprised to find it had good reviews. Still skeptical though. It would be nice to know someone that had firsthand experience with one.
I have plenty of first hand experience with smittybuilt. Decent winches for the price .
Id get a lighter winch with rope instead of heavier with cable .

Sounds good. I'll keep my eyes on the 12k on black Friday. I just want one before we put the abomb on so im not dealing with that mess later
Smittybilt has 2 12k winches, one is ip67 rated the other is ip68, the 68 is "waterproof" the 67 is "water resistant" i am wondering if its worth the extra $100 and 10lbs to get the "waterproof" version vs the "water resistant".... the waterproof one comes with a wireless remote... hmmmmm

Had one on display for about a year in a tank of water. Worked just fine.

What about cutting a steel plate and welinging it in the middle like webbing (i have a ton of thick steel plating
