PLAN B

This build was 2 parts 1 i have a truck I made to pretty to wheel so I'm building an ugly one I can actually enjoy. And 2. My cousin has been trying to join us for blazer bash but his truck wont be ready so we are surprising him with this one
What filter did you put on it? It's funny I just replaced that plastic part.
I just used a crankcase breather. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/vpe-2167

I haven't had the charcoal canister hooked up for a long time. Which I think is also why that little valve thing didn't flow. I think it needs a vacuum on the line from the canister in order for it to open.

Made some progress tonight. We got the engine in and since it was still early we stabbed the transmission in. :) research paid off, I didn't need to modify my transmission crossmember, linkage or anything.

One of my ord engine bushings was broken so I swapped them out for Kevlar bushings I happened to have laying around (buying extra parts just in case saved my ass again)

In the latest Uinta Garage video we walk through ditching the rag joint steering shaft and upgrading to a borgeson steering shaft. We also walk through the process of replacing the lower steering column bearing! This is a detailed video for the installation of both parts that should cover any of questions that often come up.

Parts:
Borgeson 935 steering shaft /
Borgeson 000935 steering shaft

Crown Automotive 4487696k Steering Shaft Bearing kit

I need to watch that video!

I need to replace my rear brake pads and replace the hub seals so I'm thinking while I have the hub off I might switch out my rotors and pads for nicer stuff. I haven't seen a whole lot in the way of drilled and slotted rotors available for these. Any reason why not? Either way my hubs are coming off and I'll need new pads. Now would be the time.

Another question, I have never had these seals go out before but both sides started leaking this year during blazer bash, do I also need to look into bearings or something?

Interesting, I blew my pasenger rear axle seal this year too and the seal was just replaced 6 months ago and I have the exact same setup as you. However, I sheared a leaf pin which made me run a long trail with my axle offset so I assumed that was the reason. Your axle isn't shifted right?

I've got the same setup and I'm sure it doesn't help that the seals are wide open to the dirt with no backing plate at all to help keep them protected.

I wouldn't think that would be a big problem. Lots of our trucks have never had backing plates and we don't have many problems. Our latest '23 KWs don't have backing plates on 52K tandems.
Between sand and brake dust, I have seen some pretty nasty axle housing at the seal area. Our most common issue is wheel bearing end play getting too loose or simple product failure. The 2 piece seals are the best way to go, just make sure to install them properly as to not crush the inner ring onto the outer.
And anymore, I end up going towards the tight side of adjustment rather than the loose side. Measuring end play with a dial indicator will surprised me. I was close by feel, but slightly loose by indicator.

As far as I can tell the axle hasn't shifted. What's interesting is both sides started leaking half way through gold bar but now only the passenger side is leaking. I was thinking maybe the fluid got too hot and got really thin or something but that's not the case.
Have you been running stock seals or the improved design ORD sells? https://www.offroaddesign.com/14-bolt-hub-seal-improved-design.html
I have never personally changed the seals so I assume they are stock.

I was trying to figure out how a two part seal works. I wonder if there is an install video or instructions. I need to see it done.

I actually was thinking that maybe the moab dust clogged my filter so it vented through the seal but I haven't had a chance to inspect things for sure
