Supercharger fix;guage & plugs question

tRustyK5, very helpful :waytogo: Thank you! Basically I am going to have to fab up a bracket that'll work is what I'm reading there. It doesn't seem to far outta reach as long as all the numbers match up I guess, Still seems like a bit of a gamble tho. I'm going go nose around the engine bay some more and see what I can come up with.

ryoken,

I've read a bunch of your post already. Wish I had 1/3 your wiring skills:waytogo:
Anywho.
I do believe its running the 700R4. At least that's what the Transmission repair bill from last year says. I certainly don't want another bill like that one. I did research about the TV cable a bit. I guess in my research, I assumed the truck wouldnt shift at all if it wasn't connected, or wouldn't shift in to 2, 3rd etc. I did drive it about 7 miles home (no freeway). Its been sitting since till i know it good to go.

Any ideas on how its connected with a SC?

Am i correct in thinking it suppose to have a bracket or sorts? Ill get better pics later today after work, Im getting the rear end situated this next weekend with some seals n bearings, Hope to get the SC squared away soon enough too.

next time ya talk to the PO, tell em Ryoken say's he's an idiot.....

hopefully the tranny ain't hurt.. DO NOT DRIVE IT.... as the links will say, it's even close to a kickdown cable... got to be one of the most common, scary mistakes out there... T350, T400? no kickdown, no big... tv cable is life for the 700... :haha:

here's some reading...

quick http://700r4.com/faq/whattv.shtml

long http://www.tvmadeez.com/article/index.php

first thing... is it me, or is that tv pointing like 45 degrees off? that has to be taken care before the truck moves... however, maybe call Whipple for a bracket, fab one, etc...

here's an article on the geometry.... critical

and thanks, preciate it... if I can help, holla...

Oh yeeah, My learning curve is through da roof right now! Thanks:bow::bow::bow:

YES! that thing is every bit of 45* to the drivers side and slightly pointing up. I still can't get how it was shifting at all... No less, sheet metal, crazy measurements, welding...all in my near future. ALL this for a few extra ponies, I hope its worth it!:tongue1:

I'm gunna call Whipple first thing and see what they say.

And I WILL Holla if I need help, you can bet on that. :waytogo:

As I get into it more ill start a separate thread ( That is appropriate right?)

Thanks again!!!!

Kyle

You could start a new thread, or keep it all here so there is a relevant, chronological order to the fix and the history behind the problem.

you'll have less work getting the bracket worked out, than you would have retro-ing in tbi...

really the best way to do it is to have the upper portion free, so you can acurately see where the cable-fixed spots want to be in relation to the whipple, then work back to the intake with measurements, plans, etc...

basically to set the tv, you want to depress the "D" button on the cable, pull the sheath back towards the firewall, release the button, then operate the throttle to WOT... ya hear the cable click out a few clicks...

you can always get a build thread going in the Driveway, definitely the best way to post/keep track of the rig and what's being done to it... or it could read like War and Peace, like mine... :haha:

"relevant, chronological order" ... I like that Idea, Wish I could change the thread name now lol:rolleyes:

"you'll have less work getting the bracket worked out, than you would have retro-ing in tbi..."

I belive it used to be just that , TBI no? No less, if this is what well experienced Chevy guys would do, then this is my mission now.

SO! All that being tied together, I'm getting started! :hack:

1st AM , I'll be calling Wipple to see about there brackets. Till then, Ill do what I can.

First things first , lets remove the monstrosity of a air intake!

Done. Wander how much air it was really getting?? :dunno:

Made quick work of the PO's BS bracket and all the one bolt and small screw holding it in..

Questions..

#1 I'm pretty sure something needs to go here, like a PCV but its on the other side.

#2 This white wire which has a plug is disconnected. Is from the bigger grey looking plug. ( I didn't do it :dunno:)

#3 I'm thinking this is were the TC cable should ultimately be connected?

#4 Are these two bolts okay for a foundation? The rear most bolt was used with the PO's bracket.

Red line shows the TV, Blue the throttle cable. It need replacing, It was wound up like an extension cord and frayed, split etc.

The "other guys" bracket.. Look familiar? I'm saving it to trace for TV cable and Throttle holes.

So just to make sure I am understanding correctly, I BASICALLY need a bracket that sits square, parallel etc with in the specs by the links provided with what is now the linkage? Like what would be in it's stock configuration.?

For grins, this was my old rig, I sold it for this HeavyChevy!

I BUILT this truck Bumper to roof rack to font bumper to lift so on and so on.. I will do much more and better to this old rig. I had to move out of this cuz, well < I'm kinda a big guy... Not fat tho!:shame:

wow, that bracket looks a 12 yr old's erector set project...

if it where me and the top holes where good, I'd see about just lopping that whole top section off at the next bend and just fully weld that on to a new fabbed lower..

:woot:

yeah, wtf is the other tv looking hole for? maybe trim that off... maybe get some strip steel or angle iron from homo depot or something, make a template, measure thrice, cut and burn em all together...

oh, i see that was a bolt there.. wow, hokey, no slop there....... maybe use the lowest bracket for the 2 intake bolts welded to your piece, then that one...

YuuuuuP! Was guuna use that scrap piece I had it laying on.

"wow, hokey, no slop there...."
YuuuUuUUP!

instead of "quick reply" you can click on quote to the left of it.. that quotes the whole thing..

or at the top of the reply box, the icon all the way to the right is quote for copy/paste. the one next to it with the mountain pic, is for linking pictures..

:doah:..... COooL thanks lol

Excellent ! Thanks again!

I called Wipple this morning. They do in fact have have the bracket I'm looking for. It's gunna set me back 29.99 plus shipping. Probably quicker than fabbing one up, unless of course there bracket is crap :waytogo:

I was also able to get a hold of there installation manual, so I'll be able to go thru and see if there's anything else missing the PO didn't "know" about
Will Post up all that soon:woot:

Called Whipple to get that bracket. They were less than pleasant to deal with. I was able to finally get them to Email a PDF of the installation manual. Looked it over real good and I didn't find any other obvious install shortcuts. Once I get that bracket and cables dialed in I plan on getting a fuel pressure gauge to make sure the pressure is within there instructions. Also, Planned on buying a boot gauge just so I can see with that's at.

Questions:

#1) My research is telling me that I should be staying at or below 7psi of boost for a engine with not mods, this sound ok?? Recommendations? Most of what I've read indicates Whipple made this SC just for that reason but..:dunno:

#2) Exhaust !? The destruction's mention that the exhaust should have as little back pressure as possible. Mine is pretty much stock. My mind tells me Headers, High flow cats, Magnaflows true dual.. ? Opinions? That seems a little rich for my wallet, Any alternatives ? Have welder, will install! I been meaning to research pre-bent exhaust set ups. Links if ya gottem:waytogo:

#3) Whats the easiest way to get about a 1/4 tank of fuel out of the tank? Bought it with that fuel and sure don't trust that PO so far. I wanna refill with 92 octane per the directions and big red sticker on the fuel door.

I am supposed to have this bracket Friday or Saturday. Will certainly be posting to double and triple check my install to make sure I got that TV set proper. Till then Im replacing the seals for the rear axle ( temporary till I upgrade ).

Thanks Fellas

Just run the fuel that's in there till it's about done, no real reason to waste that. Just take it easy on the throttle till you know what fuel is in there.

Headers, y-pipe, to a single 3" system should flow plenty for a sc small block. For full duals use 2.5" on each side.

7psi sounds like it's in the safe zone. Apples and oranges here but I have my old Volvo cranked up to 10psi and have read that up to 15psi is still safe. In your case I'd advise a boost guage and maybe even an air/fuel guage to make sure it's not leaning out. Too lean under boost can lead to a new inspection hole in the block, which you don't want. Is there a "hotter" tuned chip in the ECM? Or just relying on higher fuel pressure to add fuel to the mix?

The hole in the drivers side valve cover... The PCV valve should be on the pass side, that is correct. The hole in the drivers side cover is for fresh air to enter the crank case. On the factory set up there was a tube that stuck into that hole and connected to a fitting under the air cleaner, not directly to the throttle body (non vacuum but after the air filter). You could find a filtered breather cap that will fit in there or connect a hose from there to the intake tube.
