I have reset the entire unit previously, and reset fuel trims and IAC learn and TPS learn since the ECT change.

after the last coolant sensor was swapped out right? Otherwise it's trying to re-learn over top of bad data.

What exactly is the issue now?

Wrote the Cal back to default again last night. Setup a data log for the ride home, it definitely goes lean on accel, then goes way rich trying to compensate, then seems to even out.

Need to drive it more again. Feeling frustrated because some of the info I am getting seems misleading, and while I still feel good about the FiTech purchase, I am upset that some of the important requirements of the system aren't emphasized more both prior to purchase and in the instructions...

Which important requirements are you referring to?

Seems like that is true of so many things. Once you get in the middle of it you find all these other important things that didn't seem to be mentioned anywhere before you got started.

On the Sniper it doesn't say anything about installing a return spring. The throttle feels heavy enough, but sure enough if you don't have one it will often not return to 0 on the TPS.

How and where is your O2 sensor installed?

Have you verified Fuel Pressure while driving?

How is your voltage?

These systems are really simple but one little detail will send it sideways.

Alot of things that I am coming across are exactly as @skunked has said...

One little thing not being quite right and the system goes out of whack in a big way...

I never would have tried running the system without timing control knowing what I know now.

I actually read something last night in the software that comes with the handheld unit (that I never knew existed until I plugged it in the my laptop) where FiTech flat out tells you that they aren't giving you all of the info you need because they want you make sure your ignition system is 100% perfect. I'll have to get home to find and then post exactly what they said.

There doesn't seem to be a diagnostic flow chart anywhere that I can find...

Little things here, little things there keep me frustrated.

And @skunked

My exhaust maniflods are factory GM TBI, so O2 is in the driver's side right next to the collector.

I have not verified driving fuel pressure. I can't without buying sh!t...

Voltage is 13.7-14v measured by the FiTech.

The common problems I've ran into FWIW

#1) Power/Ground issues
#2) Ignition (bad wires, plugs, coil etc)
#3) Failed coolant temp sensor (2 out of 5)
#4) Exhaust leaks (causing bad O2 readings)

Just over the weekend I was helping my buddy with his 72 K5 with a ZZ502. He was complaining that it wouldn't idle, was running like shit in his words. So I fire it, wouldn't run without some throttle pedal so I look at the handheld and see 10.8V while running. Double check with multi-meter and confirmed the alternator was shot. While putting a new alternator on I noticed the hot side battery post had made contact with the battery strap (loose). So that's what killed the alternator. Put a charge on the new battery, fired the truck and confirmed the new alternator was charging. Brought the truck up to full temp, I hear the fans (Be Cool setup) kick on and the handheld is saying engine temp is 165. So once again the coolant temp sensor failed, EFI thought the engine was cold when in fact it was warm. New sensor and it fires right up, runs great again.

My point being that all these little issues will send the EFI sideways. I already dealt with exhaust leaks, bad ignition wires and voltage/ground issues on this truck when we first fired it. The carb didn't give two shits about these problems however the EFI will.

For what it is worth, it ran better last night than it ever had...

Ever.

I'm pretty sure @Bent77 would still out run me going up the big hill, but no chance running stop light to stop light...

good to hear.

and I'd put money on you because #nodumptrucktransmission

I'm talking stop light to stop light...

Not town to town with only one stop light in each town...

Oh, and Scott said your truck is too loud...

Just thought you should know...

We already discussed weight gearing and tires size being equal. Who’s wore out POS will win!!?

Before or after your new motivation?

'Cause after is just cheating.
