Everything happened like a light switch was flipped.

Truck was actually running pretty good.

Left my house and headed to work, stopped at the convenience store. Left store and about 1/4 mile down the road it started misfiring really bad. Lifted out of the throttle and came to a stop. Idle is hunting all over the place. I'm less than a mile from work so I nurse it along. Any throttle input at all and I get misfires and popping out of the exhaust. Idle won't stabilize. Make it to work and shut it down. Incredible fuel odor from the exhaust.

Fast forward to after work.

Fire up truck to no change. Decide to check all of the pertinent stuff visually. Dizzy tight? Check
Vacuum hoses ok? Check
Battery cables tight? Check
All sensors plugged in? Check

Looked through the dashboard on the Fitech display, tps appears functional, coolant temp shows cold, but steadily rising, voltage was 14.1, afrs and IAC are fluctuating wildly, but so is the idle,

Decide that I will re-write the calibration again. Reset my parameters for initial startup. Save and send everything to ecu. Shut key off, wait approx a minute, start engine. No change. Attemted to drive home. Any throttle input and popping and backfiring. Slowly got worse as i went down the road. Halfway through the 3 miles I actually made it, the display started wigging out. Then the truck died, and wouldn't restart. I had made it off of the road and into a parking lot via gravity. Was sitting there while calling a buddy to help me, and noticed the display was flickering. Keys were out of the ignition for over 30 minutes at this point. The display continued to flicker and would sometimes light up an actual Fitech logo, all on its own for over an hour, until my buddy showed up. Then we hooked up the strap and I put the key back in, and we took off. Display would not light up during this time. Key on, so I could steer while being pulled, and fitech is dark. Made it home and tried starting it again. No dice.

Then I cursed Fitech on an internet forum.

This morning I had to work. Called Fitech from work. I was nice and not accusatory to Cody. He said the he could give me some things to try. Got home and tried them. 0.1 ohm between Fitech body and negative battery post. Actually got the truck to start, and display to light up. Display said to check TF card. Popped it out and back in, display now works again. Truck still runs like :poo:.

Called back, got Dominic.

Told me to get a pressure gauge hooked up to the fuel pump. Ok? That doesn't explain the display wigging out, but whatever. I'll try that. If the pressure is low, rewire my pump with a relay.... well ok, but several guys across the country run this exact setup with no relay. Well is the AC Delco pump capable of PWM? I don't know, but mine was set to not use that function, pump on settings were all set to allow full pump voltage at idle.

That is where I am at currently.

I have nothing of technical value to add. But damn that sucks dude.

Going to install the old HEI tomorrow. Eliminate (or confirm) the MSD Dizzy and Coil as the culprit...

Last year on the trail my FiTech toasted my coil and since I had a warranty I swapped out my distributor and it’s been running fine since. I hope swapping out to the hei helps.

I was trying to remember if you swapped over to timing control or not. That’s a good place to start, also have you monitored voltage levels during the misfire issues? The handheld turning off an on is a sign of low voltage and or bad grounds.

Still doesn't explain the display wigging out...

Unless the Fitech went into it's safe place due the completely erratic readings it was trying to overcome.

Still need it to run better as a whole, but for now, it is back to where it was before this...

For the record, the adjustable rotor is in the trash now. I'm using the standard rotor and just re-sync'd the dizzy and double checked everything else. Then I drove around the block. Back to running pretty good. I do have a good feeling that it will turn into running great.

Fingers crossed.

Blazer bash is back on for this one...

I didn’t use the adj rotor either, mine is still on the shelf.

You and I talked about it, and I was going to put the standard one back in at that point. It just didn't happen. Now I have it back in, feel better about it, and the truck doesn't seem to notice the difference...
