Time for a Blazer Bash 2016 after action report.

I had an absolute blast! Met a lot of good people and the blazer performed great.

This is the first time I've been able to do any "real" wheeling with fuel injection and an automatic and it was so much better that it felt like cheating. :thumb: When doing any challenges on previous trips, I not only had to find the right line and work it correctly, but I had to take into account working the clutch (with not low enough gearing) and hoping I could keep the engine running so I wouldn't lose brakes and steering. It took me awhile to get used to knowing I could count on the engine to keep running but once I did I was willing to try a lot more and it made for a great trip.

There was however a bit of carnage:

Things got a little tight in pickle canyon.

lost focus and dropped onto the rocker on cliffhanger. Totally avoidable, just a screwup on my part. :(

Bent the tierod somewhere on cliffhanger. It's not horrible, so I think I can get the tires straight with tierod end adjustment.
The transfer case is spitting a bit of fluid out the breather. It's been doing that a bit for awhile, but it appears to be worse. I let @Babaganoosh near the blazer so it's probably the tranny leaking into the transfer case. :)

I managed to bend my exhaust around my rear axle. I got it pulled back out, but got a nice sized kink that I have to fix.

Broke my cb antenna on a low hanging tree. :doah: Time to upgrade to a flexible antenna I guess.

I had a bad ground on the PCM but other than that the engine performed flawlessly. I'd say the LS swap was a huge success. It's reliability just made the entire trip more enjoyable.

Your rig is looking more and more like mine! Glad it was fun, Hopefully you will be there next year.

Thats good to hear!!!! @blazinzuk said he got to ride with you and it was running very well. He did say something about regear though?
Yeah, I am very happy with the tune for sure. Eric was doing a pretty good job of talking me into a 6 lug 14 bolt before any regearing happens so we'll have to see how that pans out. I've also been spending money like crazy lately so I need to slow down for awhile before throwing too much more at the blazer.

yeah, it sounds like a good call. I didn't know you could get a 14b with 6 lugs so I never looked into it before. I can't justify the added expense of changing tires and wheels for an upgraded axle, but if I can do it without that, then I think I'm in. :waytogo:

88-98 Chevy 1/2 and light duty 3/4 ton trucks used them. Usually get them from the wrecking yard for around 3-400 dollars complete. A fair amount of work to cut off the spring perches but so worth it in the end. They are about 3 inches wider than the 12 bolt and have bigger brakes to boot. I have been running one for over 10 years and have yet to hurt it.

Will the bigger brakes fit inside a 15" rim? Eric mentioned that later years had disk brakes. While I'm upgrading that might be nice too.

My wheels did, but they are an early 90s wheel if I remember. Mine is still drum though

The axle that I got out of a '93, used the same brake shoes as the 10 bolt, just bigger drums.

Take a tape measure with you. I found a 2wd width under a 4x4.

We may have to get @bent72 to go shopping for others!

Yep, ill be hunting for a 465/203

@ashman Do you have a pic of your shifters? Wondering how Lokar and 241 shifter spacing turned out on the trans tunnel, thanks!

Looking through my stuff, I could only find this:

The shifter itself can be mounted anywhere along the plate that sits on top of the transmission so you can fine tune the placement to be where you want it. I was able to get it to go through the original hole in the tunnel. If you are looking for a pic of how the 2 shifters sit in relation to each other I can get you a pic when I get home. I'm pretty sure I have a pic of the modified tunnel cover somewhere too. I'll see if I can round that up too.

Cool thanks!

Sorry, I spaced this off until today. Here is some pics from inside:

As you can see, I never got around to putting a boot on the lokar shifter.

It has very little throw at the floor level, so it doesn't need much room around it.

Thanks! I have a floor mount Lokar but was wondering how much room you had.

@ashman Are you going to get your tranny rebuilt or go in a different direction?

To fix the leak? I haven't put much thought into it yet. I'll be sticking with a 4l60E in either case. If it costs too much to fix the leak, I'll probably just live with it for now, then replace it with another used one when I get around to it. It runs perfectly at the moment so it's tough to muster up the 'want to' to do more than top off the fluid for now.
