Agree on the c02, i always run mix with mig. Much nicer gas to weld with
Me too always run mix. I really liked the tri mix but man was that expensive. I get CO2 is cheaper but its not that much cheaper.
Never seen the cheater lens... That would be nice for when I can't get my head in the fender well to see what I'm doing...
Not my choice, I also pay very close attention to the stickout and try to keep it under 1/2 inch or less..
I run a 1.5 cheater lense.. I like it...

A 75/25 mix will definitely help you out.
I'd consider downhand on something thinner where failure, if it occurred, would be moot. i'll gladly deal with an ugly uphand that needs some grinder love to a pretty downhand that may or may not have enough penetration. I've held several "all position" tickets, and it's not a coincidence that downhand is not one of the positions tested. It does have it's place, just not anywhere you need strength/safety.
I watched some videos online and that was the consensus.. I don't mind if the weld isn't as pretty as long as it is strong.. The ugly welds I poated pics of all had a very good root pass and the consecutive passes were ugly.. I'll check the heat area to see if there was adequate penetration and if not I'll grind it and reweld.
I welded all of my shock mounts and bump stop mounts vertical down. Still going great, and I have had some nasty hard landings.
Clearly I've just been proven to be full of shit. I will step aside now and let you and your superior welding skilz take over.

Oh, I saw them. I just don't weld, so I can't comment.
I second that, vertical and overhead welding is something I've struggled with. I'll be trying the up hill triangle method
