Does suck.. I don’t have the 14 but it would be an easy bolt on when I find one. It would be a van axle for sure at this point.

To @folkenheath comment about unsprung weight.. I’m gonna make a guess and say probably will effect the ride and handling quite a bit. The 9 in fully loaded was manageable solo. The 70 I can barely move on the garage floor.
It’s unlikely it will still be on leaf springs when the swap happens though. So it won’t be totally apples to apples.
I know a friend of mine runs a spooled 70 in his Prerunner jeep and it gets down without any issues. So I am following that lead.

I have the unsprung weight thought a lot about the 14bff and d70. I have both but when I do the short course suspension setup I think I'd go with a fabricated 9" so it holds up I'm also keeping the 35s so there one more check in the box for less center sector mass

WOw Jesse made an appearance!!

So I actually got the dana 70 apart! I pulled the carrier out and found out what was making it so loose, the shims somehow got eaten up?? is that normal?? but the gear set looks good enough to use. I am going to order a bearing kit and seals once i get it fully taken down and cleaned up. Ive gotta get the disc brake brackets for it at some point.. part of me might just say FK it and use the drums if I can get them unstuck. the master cylinder still has the residual valves in them.. well see though..

It ate its shims somehow!! But that is an easy fix! Heck I might even put a solid spacer in here and resetup the gears.

Uh lol so I did some more recon this morning and maybe it’s not as good as I thought in here. The pinion has a lot of rust on it..

The carrier must be shot because the bearing literally just fell off the one side and there is a fair amount of extra clearance.

So what do you guys think?? Is this even something runnable? I don’t really wanna put any money into a dana axle when I prob could find a 14 bolt that is usable and stick whatever gear I want in it.

Dave said he’s got a good 14 bolt so I’ll be driving out to Vegas to get that.. wonder how much this 70 is worth for scrap
