'81 K5, "BlaZeus"- How to NOT build the ultimate budget K5; 3 & 4 link build

Couple of my favorite Blazer Bash pics are of a guy that runs an Edelbrock 1406:

I have heard the old timers used to turn the pressure down to 1 psi with a remote regulator on the floor, the electric pump idea could work but I'd be worried about it keeping up in the sand or something should you come up on it. Fuel pressure is easy to change.

That's why he runs the electric pump as well. There's a toggle switch on the shifter that when you get to sand or a hill climb where lots of power is needed you flip it on and it overrides the regulator to get more than the 1 psi used normally. It was a just an elcheapo inline regulator from the parts store.

I've never heard of someone overriding a regulator that's what doesn't make sense it's job is to regulate pressure?? If it works cool.

You need to use a cheap regulator. I had one of those cheap chrome jobs. Rev the motor and even though it was set at 2 it would hit 4 or 5 on the gauge.

I doubt a decent regulator would allow any pressure change as that's what it is designed to do.

All the regulators with a guage I'm seeing are over $50...doesn't seem "cheapo" lol

There used to be one you could get with a dial that had the pressure numbers on it. Granted it means you're taking the pressure at their word, but I'll bet it's cheap.

The Mr Gasket ones at O'Reilly's are pretty cheap, I had one on my Q-Jet for a while. But what I thought was a fuel pressure issue ended up being a sliver of metal under the float needle from when the refurb company cut the Helicoid into the input.

I'll third the motion that EFI is the long term solution. Q-Jets do ok off road, and probably good enough until you get around to doing something else... I'm not personally familiar with Edelbrock carbs. My experience with them was that I bought a 1406 on an impulse, pulled it out of the box, then realized I spent as much on that carb as a much more capable megasquirt setuop would have cost me, ans promptly returned it.

But I also realize that megasquirt is not a viable option for a lot of people, it requires electronics experience, knowledge of the inner workings of EFI systems, tuning, etc... Not a bolt on EFI solution by any means. If you mess up anything, that can result in some really serious engine damage....

yep, it's like $10 IIRC

Got the 1456 needles, seats, and a fuel pressure regulator installed and finished installing the new power brake set up. Now on to wiring everything back up and I never figured out what these 3 wires coming from the 4x shifter are for. I'm guessing one is for the indicator lights on the shifter, one is a ground and the other is for a dash indicator? Anybody know? Thanks!
BlaZeus is coming together! Getting closer and with 3 weeks til we leave, I think I'll pull it off!

Has anyone moved the 4x shifter closer to the driver seat and have any pics/tips on what's involved in moving it? I remember when I used to shift into 4x, I would have to unbuckle my harness and reach over far to shift it. I'd like to move it in front my gear shifter as would be nice to be able to shift it while strapped in and on the fly. Thanks!

My shifter is on a linkage I don't think it would be to hard if it's a 208 because it's one lever but the 203 has two levers making it way harder to move

Just goes back and forward, that gate is only there for the shifter not the linkage. If it was me a pivot and connecting rod like it is factory and put the lever where you want.
