87 K5 "Cashbag"

Again, great write up!

Side note: the picture of you 3 wheelin it was about half of the overall height. That tire came way off the ground, and I only caught the last part of it. Very nice wheeling on your part sir.

A lot of the trails down there seem to need wheelbase to tackle. K5s end up being just a bit to short to make them all the time.
Looks like some good shots though.

I think every time we go someone kissed that fence or almost does. An extra 5' would make all the difference

What you should do is bring page 9 to the actual wheeling thread. Build threads are for building. Wheeling threads are for wheeling.

Glad you brought this up. I really never thought of it that way. I guess I've never paid attention to the wheeling thread because I spent most of my time in The Driveway thread reading about both. But you bring up a very good point.

I have 2" blocks in the rear that I'm going to replace with a shackle flip and then move the axle back 1". I know that won't yield me that much more on the wheelbase but every little bit won't hurt. Just another thing to add to my short list of things to get ready for BB17.

The next trip I plan will not include being somewhere at 2:00 a.m. in the morning before going to the trails. I was so tired that at times I felt invincible inside my blazer. And then when the poop factor set in I realized I needed to use better judgement.

A lesson learned and got some experience behind me. Don't get me wrong. I still have a lot to learn and the spotters did a great job helping me get up those ledges.

Don't take me too much serious. Pictures belong in all the threads. Normally the same group of pictures will make it into 5-6 threads. Your build thread. The trip thread. Another guys build thread. The random picture thread etc.
post them wherever you please. It was just more work for me to find your thread when I was already in the Tuttle thread.

ORD Black Friday sale made me do it.

Ordered:

1. 1 1/2" Tie rod
2. Tie rod ends
3. 1 1/2" Tie rod clamp (for hydro assist ram)
4. 2 1/2" Shackle flip (getting rid of 2" blocks)
5. 2 sets of zero rates (one set for moving rear axle back 1") (one set for front if it needs leveling)

Not everything I ordered is on sale but any savings is appreciated.

I will be installing this on Christmas vacation with pics and write-up.

It's a fun place.

Martin

Hey, Martin. Hoping to meet you sometime on one of the trips up there. It was a blast. I didn't expect to go climbing on the things that we did, being a rookie, but it helped me find some weak points. And those were no Bunny slope trails, either. I was very impressed on how the blazer did and I'll do it again in a heart beat.

Tires finally arrived.....Put the ones on front so I could use the jack stands in the rear. A big difference in size compared to the 32s.

What did you use for wheels?

Just read this whole build thread, i dont know what it is about this blazer, but it seems about perfect. hope to see it sometime at tuttle next year!

I will be going back to Tuttle Creek. That was a fun trip. It helped me find some weak points on my K5 so as I write this I am finishing up working on a 2 1/2" shackle flip. When that's done I'll be doing the ram assist. These upgrades will help a lot. The steering will be stronger and no more 2" blocks plus better flex. Hope to see you there.
