'91 K5 Four Wheel Camper

This is the build for my 1991 V1500 Blazer, AKA the K5.3. It started out life being sold to the U.S. Government with a 350 TBI/700r4/241 combo. 4 years with a 5.3/700r4 Combo and now moving to an 8.1L Vortec and NV4500 5-speed.
So far so good. Still need to drive home but 5 days of running and all trucks are still good. Mine did have a couple of issues to address but none were trip killers at all. More annoyance than anything. I’ll dive in on the full trip report.

My drone had survived unscathed though there was a touch and go moment on poison spring canyon with it 50 feet off a ledge. But I got it to fly back ok. Epic shots though.

Planets lined up in a row and most all were visible.

If it happened over the last few days I might have seen it. Knowing what it was or remembering it, that’s a whole different story.

Actually, the last night out was a washout on the stargazing. Which sucked because with the landscape in valley of the gods night shots would have been insane. The storm clouds moved in and took out our sunset and socked in most of the sky after sundown.

I got a little spot of clear sky to the southeast of camp.

A week ago yesterday was probably the best morning to view. No moon, but Mercury was lower toward the sun rise, and harder to see.

Didn’t say. But the general idea is to meet in Hanksville Sunday afternoon. Head south for the Henry mountains. Set up camp, have some beers and stare at the map for the next days route.

Years past I’ve lined out every day and the plan gets changed by day two. So the only plan is day one and the rest is on the fly from there. Only constraint is we plan on being back by the following weekend. But we do have a little wiggle room for a day.

We’ll see where the wind takes us.

I approve of this planning method. :waytogo:

Plans never survive long, anyway...

Just got back from a long weekend in the mountains. Just a camping trip with my sis and her hubby. They have a decent trailer but it’s not something to go off road with. The truck they pull it with couldn’t hang off road with the 20” Bridgestones gm out on it.

We came down to Buena Vista and went up and over cottonwood pass to the Taylor reservoir area. Temps were low 80’s to high 70’s. I had planned on hitting the Dorchester campground up at the north end of the Taylor river valley.

I took the drone up to get some practice. Amazing views.

Next morning I got up just before sunrise and watched fog fill in the valley from the south as it crept up to the north.

You can see the difference in the fog over the next couple pics.

During the fog some free range cows came wandering threw the meadow across from us. My dog instantly went into the mode to go heard them up. Had to tell her no. She whined for 5 minutes but stayed with me.

We went fishing later and I managed to get skunked. My bil got 5. When a hawk swooped down and plucked a fish out of the water I knew my day was done.

Great view of the valley with the sun going down though.

Came back over cottonwood pass this morning after a great camp breakfast. Stopped at the top to get the pic at the summit sign.

Good little trip. Truck did great. The dog had a ball. Got some quality time in with my family with zero distractions. Totally worth it.
