PDF is good and a lot of times free.
I have a hard time finding what I’m looking for in the files.
I like a service manual.

I prefer the book but will use the PDF as a supplement when my 1979 manual doesn't have something covered. That's a distant 2nd place for me. Not quite as easy to "thumb" through as the book. But if you can't find the book for sale it's the best way to go.
Bummer man. If you can, run the broken housing through a parts cleaner and cook it in an oven. That will get a lot of the nasty stuff out. Gouging the crack and throwing a fair bit of carb cleaner at it will go a long way to getting a functional weld.I think I'm going to keep the old broken one. I know a couple of guys locally that Tig weld that might be able to fix it for a spare.
I jump on eBay and get a factory manual for every old vehicle I buy. Too bad the new cars are digital only.Ordered some information via Amazon. Crazy they used to be known for only books.

I figured if I took it apart a couple of weeks ago I might need help putting it back together. View attachment 431083
Hey kids this is how we did stuff before YouTube. Gasp! Books!
Old fart alert for sure, but there is just something about the tactile feel of service manuals, the smell of them is just a reminder of a different time. Printing pages from the computer isn’t the same.
I remember when I was a Chevy Technical Assistance we each had a full set of service manuals for the current model year and we had 5 previous years worth in cabinets within our group. The books were like having a key to the candy shop and I was in a very happy place.
I know to some the books are a pain in the ass to find stuff but it always came easy to me. The logic behind them clicked with my odd brain.
But I will say this for anybody that is up and coming in this hobby invest in some factory service manuals for your ride. It’s worth it. There’s a book for the model of truck like C/K, R/V, S/T and then there is the unit repair manual I just picked up. The unit repair manual covers the main components like the engine, transmission, axles, power steering, etc. Think of it this way, the service manual shows you how to remove or replace a major component, the unit repair manual shows you how to tear down and reassemble those parts off the vehicle.
Old fart tangent off. Buy a book kids!
1990 and 1991 only. VSS style. What year tcase? I have one but don’t know if it’s right. Came off a 1991 k10 burb
I’m going to guess yes. Thanks for checking for me.
Looking how that broke I’d bet it comes down how the housings get glued together with rtv. Between getting glued and the lip that goes inside the opening of the case half it’s almost impossible to release the part from the face without side loading that lipped edge.Never been apart since it came off a driving truck.

Don’t downgrade!

I wouldn't swap the 241 for a 205 personally unless with a doubler, which I am not sure I will.Looking how that broke I’d bet it comes down how the housings get glued together with rtv. It’s stuff like this that is seriously making me consider scrapping the 241 and start looking for a round pattern 205 and twin sticking it. Larry is been gnawing at me to do just that. But I hate giving up the gearing advantage I have without going to a magnum.
Arrgh!
Trust me I don't want to go away from the 241. Ideally, I'd just put a magnum in with a 205 as it's only 1.6 inches longer than my 241. I know that because I looked it up at work while I was eating lunch. But I have to snap my brain into reality as needing 130:1 crawl ratio is totally not needed in this truck. Look what kind of trouble I got in with half that! This isn't a hard core crawler, even as cool as it would be to have triple t-case shifters poking up through the floor.I wouldn't swap the 241 for a 205 personally unless with a doubler, which I am not sure I will.
But if you want a round 205, pm me
