'91 K5 Four Wheel Camper

This is the build for my 1991 V1500 Blazer, AKA the K5.3. It started out life being sold to the U.S. Government with a 350 TBI/700r4/241 combo. 4 years with a 5.3/700r4 Combo and now moving to an 8.1L Vortec and NV4500 5-speed.
@ktmoutfront, was it the guy that was always picking up trucks and parting them out, particularly 5.3/6.0 stuff? Kinda had a business going from it?

I'd stay away from the 8.1L. I had one last year that I was going to put into my K10 on 1 tons and 37's.

The one I had someone had cut and tig'd the oil pan. I wanted to get another stock oil pan to put on the but they're nowhere to be found.

The only performance upgrades/ aftermarket parts for the 8.1L are from one company... I forgot the name but they are pricey. They have heads, cams and such and they'll port the stock intake manifolds for the 8.1L.

I also hear of people having issues with the wiring with the 8.1L.

I was gonna run a carb on mine but the only company that makes a carb'd intake for the 8.1L charges around $650.00 for it.

Not knocking the engine by any means but your stuck with what the 8.1L has to offer in stock form unless you plan to drop big money.

Happy Big 50 Birthday to this guy! When we met as punk college kids in the mid 90’s we never thought past graduation day to think we’d ever be 50 year old guys some day. Wow, time flies!

Happy Birthday doooooood! :pimp:

I knew as soon as you got your camera out (yes this is that old of a picture) instead of helping me I knew I’d never see the end of it.

At least you hit 50 first.

Thanks all.
