If I had an expedition type build like he does, I would be perfectly fine with that bumper.

. I think Rob and I agree the long-term plan when we paint the rig is to blast the bumper and go satin black or body color with it. The bumper may have looked a little better if it could have been mounted a little higher to hide the lower lip of the grill bezel but that would have required the mounting brackets to be built at an angle that would have probably compromised strength and caused downward leverage on the frame horns even when winching straight. I always wondered why the lower grill lip was exposed on these old things with these type bumpers. Exactly. I would never run that bumper on my truck. It would absolutely kill my approach angle. But for a rig like his, it's perfect. Plenty of protection, and even helps with trail maintenance in the engine bay.See that is exactly my thought as well. The bumper design goes along with the theme and purpose of the truck. The big bumper goes great with the adventure/expo type rig purpose just as Dueling’s tube bumper goes great with his sand dune machine. A big boxy bumper would seem out of place on Dueling’s just as a tube bumper would look equally as silly on Zoomad’s rig.
What is everybody's issue with this bumper? Is it the chrome or the boxy design?

Bingo!
That's my issue.
I think if you had a bit more time you could properly mount it to be strong enough. Even with a winch.
I like the chrome. These old trucks were designed with chrome and need chrome to look right.

I'm ok with that even if the side profile looks like a fire truck. That's what it reminds me of.

Maybe you can find one of those little air compressors at a garage/yard sale/auction/pawn shop. With the dual tanks.
Tear it down and put the tanks in the bumper on each side of the winch.
My neighbor gave me a brand new home depot one awhile back.
Here's a China freight one as an example:

Or if you have access to semi crap, alot of semi trailers have a air tank mounted in the back for reserve air for the brakes. I found a couple of them to put on my stepside.
