'91 K5 Four Wheel Camper

This is the build for my 1991 V1500 Blazer, AKA the K5.3. It started out life being sold to the U.S. Government with a 350 TBI/700r4/241 combo. 4 years with a 5.3/700r4 Combo and now moving to an 8.1L Vortec and NV4500 5-speed.
I like the grill on mine. It's an 89 but I feel like the it's the same as the one you're talking about.

I like it better than the 84 grill I had on the K5. I did "upgrade" the bowtie to larger, newer version.
That’s my favorite of the sloped nose single headlight rigs too :waytogo:… Reminds me of a modern take of my 78 grill. 81/82 singles would be the least favorite but still not as ugly as any new GM truck :eek2:. 83/84 are my favorites of the quad light rigs. My 85 K5 will be wearing one of those faces :D

So what grill are you using?
See above. That's the one.

I like the Silverado 4 headlight look, but after driving mine at night so many times I'm willing to change for better lights. Honestly, I could strap a couple of led mag lights to the hood Roadkill style and have better output. Pitiful.

You could do like Ian and I do......don't drive in the dark! :dunno:. Night time is for drinking beers anyway :haha:

i don't disagree. I swapped that clip on my truck back in the late 90s before it was the cool thing to do.

The lights are terrible. I would flip on my KC daylighters... the problem with that was the light wash on the hood was terrible.
So it wasn't the correct solution, just the solution I had as a teenager.

True point. But I do drive this truck other times of the year beyond the desert trip. :haha: Sometimes I drive it to work, which depending on the time of year could be in the dark.

I've scoured the time web looking. Way back when GM actually sold an H4 housing for the 89-91 lights. It was a euro spec housing made by Hella. But since you could stuff an H4 bulb in them you have so many more options. Problem is every time if found a pair on eBay they want a stupid amount of money for them. Chinesium replacement stuff on Amazon is non-existent too. I found an Led version some YouTuber had on his but the ad lists the larger 4x6 housings. Its not worth being the guinea pig on it.

So it's really no different than back then. Best solution is to ditch the setup.

I like my '83 quad headlight setup. My '81 has the worst one I feel they ever did. Like this.

I will probably swap it with the front clip on my '87 GMC cuz I like it better.

Between conference calls and dealer calls, Larry has been busy. Oem engine crossmember out, ready for ORD unit.

He has pruned all the stuff out for some fresh tractor paint. Cleaned up some wiring. He proved that the fenders are indeed junk. The right side tore out worse during the desert trip. I'm picking up some GM used fenders this weekend. But it's ready for paint this morning.

That hydro-boost looks good in there. When finished this thing is gonna be such a big step up from the old 75!
Totally. Can't wait. I get to learn how to drive off road with a manual again.

We did have a visitor over at Larry's place last night. @cesandvik is in town visiting his Mom who lives pretty close to Larry. Good time hanging out swapping stories.

My Dad is on the way to pick him up and bring him to Canon as I type this. Executive express service in a SS trailblazer.
Buying the truck was great but still not as cool as bench racing with your dad on the way down. As a couple of lifelong Colo gearheads we had a lot of shared memories, everything from cruising the Scotsmen on north Federal in the 60s/70s to all of our old junkyard adventures and car cruises. It was a great day. Thanks again Rob and please tell your dad if he ever needs anything I will be there in a flash.

He had a good time too. Sounds like he caught you off guard with the SS when he kicked it in the ass on 6th ave.

Plus you learned the sneaky back way to avoid the construction on I-25.

I remember getting to go to Scotsmen a couple of times as a kid when he was in the Nifty Fifties car club. Sadly it closed before I got older. I do remember getting a Horrible burger there.

Made it to Denver Sat and picked up the core support from Ron. Hung out with my parents and went up to Erie to pick up the fenders. One ended up having more rot than we anticipated so he's going to swap it out this week.

On the way back to my folks near old town Arvada my little parts hauler decided to kill a wheel bearing on the left front. Got AAA to haul it to my parents house and borrowed the SS to be able to get home and go to work. Urgh.

Probably better run it through the bigassgas garage and make use of that spare bigblock you got laying around.

Easy now killer, it's just a wheel bearing.

I'm not screwing up the one vehicle in my fleet that consistently gets 24 mpg or better when I drive 90 miles a day round trip for work. Some days it sucks being an adult or else I would have already done that.

Ok rob. No fun.:frown1:
Just think about how much more fun those 90 miles could be!:burnout:

I drive about 100 round trip per day. And I got to say that the STSV makes it fun.

I know of a guy on a caddy forum I'm on that has a spare LC3 supercharger for pretty cheap if you want to make your STS a bit more:burnout::burnout:
