'94 Dodge service truck DD/Tow rig build

Veery nice. Are you going to gets some tube in By this Sun??

Nope, I'm busy tonight. I have class all day and evening tomorrow and Friday I'm working all day then we're having company over for dinner. Soooo it looks like I won't be able to wrench until late friday night.
I might get a little work in saturday night but saturday morning we'll be over at the building for the work party to get ready for sunday.
I'll get the rear floor cut down to the new length and bolted back in and probably put my license plate and mud flaps back on since I'll drive it over sunday.

Gave her a little lovin' this afternoon...

I got the engine/filter changed, trans changed and obviously the TC has just been changed as well. I still have to do the axles but I got hung up on the fuel filter. The filter I bought was setup for the water in fuel sensor in the bottom but the PO has it setup with a filter with a solid bottom so I have to figure out what's going on with that.
I'll change the fluid in the axles tomorrow night and it'll be good to go.

Now time for gauges. I've been eyeballing the Isspro EV gauge kit for my truck. Has the pillar pod, pyro/boost and everything to hook it up for $275 so I'll probably go that route. Seems like good insurance for when I get the TST power pack.

Wix filters, Napa Gold ( which are Wix filters) , Donaldson, ..........Basically anything but Fram. Fram are literally the worst filter you can buy.

I do like the rest of your choices in that pic though. I'm running Rotella T full synthetic in mine, cuz I'm to cheap to buy the royal purple LOL

Also I was just looking, Neither the Lucas or Mobil one is the correct gear oli for the trans, you should be using 75W85 GL-4 Synthetic Gear Oi with no limited slip additive.

The NV4500 is a very picky as to what lube you can use , IIRC there are only 3 or 4 "authorized" lubes 2 of them being from GM and Mopar

Well crap, I skimmed through my book before I went to the store and it said 75w-90 synthetic so that's what I got. I didn't notice the GL-4 part. So what's the GL-4 and why won't regular synthetic 75w-90 work?
Where would I find the other stuff?

Oh and as to the Royal Purple I'm cheap too but they were blowing it out since they aren't going to carry it anymore so it was only $19 a gallon. :)

do not do not do not do NOT put GL-5 gear oil in a nv4500. the syncros are a brass/bronze/kevlar setup. gl-4 is the only rated oil for the syncros. GL-5 will destroy them. Penzoil makes a synthetic 75w-90 GL-4 gear oil. thats what I used in all my nv4500s. make SURE you see GL-4 rated on whatever you get.

do not do not do not do not use a FRAM filter anywhere. I only use fleetgard. cummins brand. they are not expensive. get the stratapore oil filter, superior synthetic filter media. forget about the WIF sensor. it probably doesnt even work.

Ok I did some research and learned exactly what you guys posted while I was reading...

I'll see what I can find tomorrow after school before my night class.

I couldn't find GL-4 anywhere so I broke down and went to the dodge dealer. They had the NV-4500 specific 75w-85 synthetic GL4 that specifically said on the bottle it was for NV4500's.
So $80 later it's good to go now. :)

Thanks for the catch guys!

Rut roh, looks like I'll be changing fluid in my nv4500....

:thumb: My local Napa has the Penszoil, it was 8.99 a quart . the dealers wanted over 12.00 a quart for the GM and Mopar branded lube

Oh on a side note it's starting to warm up around here (was about 94* today) and good AC in a regular cab truck rocks! It's like an ice box before I get out of my neighborhood! :)

Thats pretty high on my list of things to fix!!!

Looking back I was an idiot for not getting the AC checked out in my old K3500 for the first two years I owned it. I was tight on money most of the time and never spent the coin to have it checked out. Well part way through the second summer on one of those weeks where it hasn't dropped below 85* at night and 105* during the day I had enough and took it to a local AC shop. About $85 and an hour later I was on my way with cold AC. :doah:

Very nice man!

As far as paint goes alot of the cost is labor, do all that yourself and have someone else spray it and you will be dollars ahead.

If you do all the prep you can get a good paint job from maaco, not great but good
