Little update on driveline parts availability for Allison transmission.

So I just got off the line with Dave at CA conversions and within the month an Allison output shaft housing machined for a different tail shaft that accepts the tone ring for the third and final vss/clutch speed sensor for the Allison 1000 will be available.
Previously the magnum under drive box was not compatible with the Allison as the only location for the vss was after the reduction and would cause the trans/tcm to “limp” when low range was engaged.

Advanced adapters makes a vss adapter but it adds a few inches to the driveline on top of the 6.25” of the magnum box.

The Allison tail shaft housing is already a weak point and even updated output housings are short on availability. Also why adding more length is a bad idea.

So this housing will hold a new output shaft for the trans as well as a press on tone ring that should be compatible with the magnum box thus solving my current issue of not being able to use the low ranges.

This is getting really expensive but promising

Well my son is back from the Navy yesterday on liberty so ya darn tootin I put him to work! Actually we just farted around for an hour cuttin burnt harnesses and hoses and pulled the rest of the driveline. I need to send the torque converter core back and I’d like to paint the Allison.
The tcm and tps kit are in from CA conversion so we’ll be using Allison proprietary software in stead of the Gm bs. Still waiting on the release of the output housing for the transmission so I’ll be able to bolt it on and get it back in the chassis. Plans to power wash the frame and paint the chassis since I’m such good shape this week.

Rinse and repeat, I’m trying to decide on how anal-retentive I’m tryna be about this build. I do want to dust on som chassis black and I’m gonna rewire/plumb nice n clean but I don’t want to completely disassemble it. It is a tow pig after all

That can be quite a challenge to figure out the balance.
Keep your sanity and some of your life and shoot for the middle! (If that makes sense. )

Cookin somethin up… I love my chrome budd wheels but it’s becoming increasingly hard to find 35-38” tires for a 16” rim. Plus a 10.5-12.5 shouldn’t go on a 6”wide rim :dunno:

So the largest rim I can stomach is a 20” but it will have at least 35x12.50s on it. I have never seen a smoothie on a dually like the kids are running these days. Of course I have some things to figure out. 1, the castings need to be cleaned up on the rear outer and they’ll need turned. 2 I’m not sure what I’m gonna do for centers, at the moment I think the factory wheel rings but I could get 15/16 lug nuts with captive washers in 9/16-18 for a dodge but they’re black so I dunno

20” duallies are the only good way to get some 12.50s on and not touch. They approach 102” real quick though.

I like the way this is going. There's several newer dodge duallies running around my work right now that gotta be 102" or wider. Damn contractors all think they need a dually with big tires and wheels lol.
I'm running 295/75R16 bfg at on my factory 16x6 super duty dually wheels and the tires crown too much. The outter edge doesn't run on the pavement hardly. I'll drop to 255/85R16 when I replace them.

They do an irok bias in a 36/13.50R19.5. Not sure they would fit on duals. Or the availability.

So while we’re on the topic I just came across these. Did some YouTube searching for reviews but I gotta say the price is right! Under $1500 shipped for 6 in 35x12.50r20!

Yea I think this is gonna feel a bit wider than the 38.5s on the 16 rims but I’ll feel much better about the safety factor

I ran a set of treadwrights for years, other than being a old Goodyear mt military 16.5" carcass they did really well.
I have a friend who ran a few sets on his Tacoma and never had an issue either.

I guess I'm slow... what the heck is the original application for that aluminum wheel? Also, how to get air into the inside dual when there's no hand holes?
