had a wild hare, started farting around with Betty again after work. Jumped a 12v wire to the tan wire behind the switch and it didn’t have spark so I stole the hei cap/coil off the 400sbc and dropped it on. Success! It runs even on the 3+ year old fuel:surepal:
I’m not sure where the fuel module is but it seems that’s what should be sending power to the fuel switch according to the schematic.
Also have either a sloppy rocker or something is ping pangin around in the valve train

8.1's have a notorious valve train chatter that could be what you're hearing.
If you were following you know it's not the 8.1 anymore.
I believe his engine now is a 454 while he gets the Cummins ready.
However I have an 8.1 that has some valve train noise at idle, goes away once I get to 1000 rpm or higher

Yea been busy hopefully I’ll get a chance to pull the valve cover n scope it out It’s been sitting with proper oil and some navel mystery oil after being brought to temp. Figured it couldn’t hurt after it’s been sitting 4+ years

At the moment I’ll be keeping the Allison but the 8.1 probably needs more that it’s worth to make run. It’s basically a long block with 200k on it

If you were closer, I would be talking to you.
My engine in the avalanche is complete and running but 276k and some noise up top I go with a clean long block with little less miles.
I think I will just read the top end and maybe pick a better cam while I'm there

Not a lot of cheap aftermarket stuff for the 8.1's unfortunately. For the amount of heavy towing I do a diesel would be a waste of money for me. I just take care of the 8.1 and feed it lots of gas and oil to keep it happy. :D

Swapped in the tank from my dually with the ep381 pump. Not fun in the stones with a lower ride height truck haha.
Also pulled the driver side valve cover. No loose rockers so I dunno what she rattle is in the 454. We’ll see if I get the fitech on this weekend. I’m currently working out of town during the weeks so my weekends are really full

Well I got the fitech installed yesterday! Real down n dirty just to get it running other than the pressure side of the fuel plumbing. I made sure that was proper even though I hooked the tb up backwards and it wouldn’t fire:haha:so I changed the 45degree and 120degree ends and there we go! It’s a runner. It was dark out and I still need to bleed the brakes or overhaul the rear brakes completely but next weekend I should get to shake it down to see if it’s even drivable.

I’m about to reach that point on mine. So tired of trying to get everything right the first time instead of having to redo stuff but it’s such a pia.

It's been my life mantra.
Yeah you end up dealing with things on the road sometimes but at least you drive it a lot longer

I use kind of the opposite mantra, my motto is:

"If you don't have time to do it right, how are you going to have time to do it again?"

However, I agree if it takes too long and you lose interest, that's not a good thing. I try to go in spurts, so it's not down for too long and driveable again. Although the last project and the next one have kind of gone past that point.

1990 bulkhead connectors are different :surepal:
Still can’t figure out where I’m losing power to the headlamps. The high beams work though. Until my buddy from American Autowire comes to build me a custom headlamp harness for the 73-74 conversion I may just swap the high beams with the low and do without highs
