Check trans level engine off . . Start engine and recheck . If no drop in level its flex plate or pump . Old school guy showed me this trick .
With the dust cover wiped out by a wobbling flex plate I bet it’s pretty easy to see the problem from underneath.

But that’s a solid tip if the cover isn’t off.

Well we roadkilled a th400 out and back in in 24 hours in the dirt without lifting the truck. All the ears are broken off the trans other than the two lower than the dowel pins. We gingerly used a Jeep winch to divorce an remarry as one of the dowels came out in the trans and this is the only shot I have of getting home short of the tow bill. 100 miles in the mountains with the yota in tow and a slide in loaded. Hit it

Now do I decommission the truck and dive into the body swap and use the Allison with a tcm:thinking:

7.4 is strong and did well could use a water pump and a little tlc

Would it be worth it to cut the rest off for one of the bolt on bellhousings?
Not that I have looked to see what they cost.

I bought one for $200 15 years ago.
Didn't use it because it is too thick so I have to use a smaller torque converter.

I could weld the ears back on but I don’t know if I’d trust it

On a trans like that you can add an SFI bellhousing because it bolts to the pump mounting ears and save the case if the trans is worth saving vs getting another one rebuilt.

They have 2 versions of some, some use a racing converter only, and others use larger torque converters, but I still don't know if they will fit a 13" converter.

I’m looking at it from the labor end I’d kinda rather swap the body on and put the 454 in the other chassis. I’m not gonna keep a non overdrive trans in the truck

I got the SFI bellhousing and no way it will fit the 13", 12" not even sure it will fit 11".
I remember that I was told 10" would be a good fit.

I will sell mine if someone wants it but obviously the certificate is not current anymore but it has not been used

There is more than 1 SFI bellhousing, a racing model and another model to fit larger converters. The racing version only accepts like a 10" converter or smaller since many racers that need the SFI use 8" or 9" converters. The larger model will accept a larger converter I'm just not sure how large. It sounds like you have the version for smaller converters.

This is gonna catapult me into the body swap/engine swap. I’m gonna put the 454 in and marry to the Allison. Not gonna change the drivetrain yet bc the driveshaft’s are new etc even though the low ranges put it in limp. I’ll remove the magnum later for now all I need is a tcm. I’ll use the CAconversions stand alone tcm. Of course I’ll have some body work to do with the black cab after cutting up the tunnel and there’s some rust holes on the firewall. Cab supports need some attention. A lot of attention actually. Here we go…

Got the price on a caconversions tcm/harness:yikes:$ 4750! Also I’ll have to eat the $450 core charge for the factory tcm for obvious reasons unless anyone has a junk Allison tcm lyin around:whistle:
