So it is setup to have 10 inches of up travel. Should work pretty well without being sky high tall.
And the frame is going to get a better engine crossmember, the front half for now will prob be plated or at least reinforced.

Me too.. considering how weak these frames are! I put it on the lift and shook the truck and the points of contact where the only stable thing on that truck.. It needs a lot of stiffening for this to survive. I assume that the cage will help a ton and so will tying those points together underneath would also help.

Have you boxed any of the frame in? I thought there was a study that showed boxing was worth 20% I rigidity and cross members were something like 40%.. For the labor boxing it was not worth the gains???

No boxing on the trail rig. Going to back half the k5 with tube.

IIRC cage tied to frame is much more beneficial than boxing alone.

Mine feels way better now.

Wow, I want one.

And yeah Id do some boxing and plating around all of the link mount locations, and shock mount locations, then cage the rest and tie the cage into those boxed/reinforced areas.

Can you sneak up with that punch notcher? The really nice thing about the abrasive notcher is how big the belt is and you can use it to make stuff flat really easily and quickly. Also the ability to hold the tube at whatever angle you want and sneak up on it.

I have no idea.

Now go weld things to other things so you can go jump things.

Is there even any intrest in this build? I am going to stop updating the thread if not.

I still don't get it, but I am following along.

The difference is I dislike the new forum setup, so I am on CK5 much less now than I use to be.

Yes. You can notch different angles. That one I found and listed here I have not used. Just found it for Adam.
The bigger ones you can though.
But they have dies. And the setup tooling is different.

Both machines have their pros and cons.

I did my first cage with chop saw/ grinder it worked well. 2nd one I used a hole saw notcher. Still some work but way faster. Complex angles I still do chop/grinder.

are the drag link and track bar heims going to be double shear at the knuckle?

Time for a long overdue update!!

So if you remember I originally had some 12 inch 2.0 coilovers, well for reasons beyong my control those are no longer with us.. I now have these bypasses, they are quad tube Bilstein 2.65 12 inch stroke with the oversize Blackhawk resivoir, this allows much much lower pressure like 80-100 psi reducing the gas ramp effect and increasing heat dissapation. They are aluminum. I have included a pic with my size 13 boot for comparision.

I finally got a chance to make the final beam pivot mounts. I thought they look pretty nice, Ill box them in and dimple die the plates.

Been working a lot on steering, these pics may be reposts.. sorry about that it can be hard to keep track of.

I finally connected the two sides with my relay rod. this was the first time I got to test my swingset and pitman arm geometry, they have to match because or the ackerman could be off on one side.

Started to play with leaf spring mounting, I was given a set of deaver springs from a race jeep cherokee.. from my research they are close to the same weight as a k5.. well see how they work, they seem to be work maybee 11-12 inches of travel.. I might be able to re arch them to gain more droop..

Here is a direct comparison to the stock leafs. When putting weight on them they are much softer and more progressive initially. the springs have 12 leafs in the pack, they are triple wrapped and have a torque leaf to combat wrap.
